Internship | MSc Thesis Opportunity: Machine Learning & AI for Energy Systems and Industrial Processes

About this position

The integration of renewable electricity and sustainable processes presents significant challenges in the design and operation of these systems. Variability in energy supply, process dynamics, and equipment performance require advanced methods for real-time monitoring, predictive control, and optimization. Machine learning (ML) and AI offer powerful tools to tackle these challenges by improving decision-making, enhancing reliability, and increasing efficiency in complex industrial and energy systems. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to apply AI and ML in cutting-edge energy and industrial applications. There is a possibility to extend the duration of the assignment for a MSc graduation project.

What will be your role?

As an intern or MSc thesis student, we have a broad list of case studies and topics to explore the application of machine learning and AI in energy systems and industrial processes:

• Real-time monitoring – Developing data-driven models for anomaly detection and predictive maintenance.
• Process control & optimization – Enhancing system performance through AI-driven control strategies.
• Application of Generative AI in energy systems and industrial processes.

What we expect from you

We are looking for a student who is enthusiastic, critical and a team-player. We expect you to work independently on your own project, but ask for help if needed. The student should regularly work from the office in Rijswijk in order to interact with supervisors and other colleagues. The student should have a strong command of Python and should have some affinity with machine learning algorithms and ML libraries such as Keras or PyTorch.
