How do you make our customers happy?

By ensuring our 2,900 colleagues have the resources they need to serve 13.5 million customers cost-efficiently. You’ll help shape investment decisions that enable innovation while driving operational excellence. And you’ll empower teams to make data-driven decisions that balance growth with sustainability.

The biggest challenge

Developing fixed-cost frameworks in a highly dynamic environment where internal recalibrations and external market shifts can drastically impact forecasts. Success requires balancing rigorous financial control with the agility to support innovation. You’ll translate market volatility into actionable forecasts while maintaining precise cost models across all cost types. You’ll challenge assumptions, take calculated risks, and optimize decisions to prioritize bol’s overall success over departmental objectives.

What you'll do as Business Controller

As a valued member of the Finance team, you’ll oversee our personnel and overhead cost modeling framework and act as a strategic partner to business stakeholders. You’ll drive the evolution of our financial infrastructure through enhanced tooling and dashboarding, ensuring we maintain complete control while enabling growth.

The scope ranges from building sophisticated cost models to supporting management decision-making with clear financial insights. You’ll collaborate with business stakeholders to identify optimization opportunities while ensuring initiatives boost the employee experience, our financial health, or preferably both. Your key responsibilities:

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Develop and maintain cost models that adapt to market changes
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives through robust business case development
  • Transform our financial reporting with PowerBI
  • Create intuitive dashboards that drive better decision-making
  • Track and report on cost KPIs and savings
  • Provide strategic guidance across Operations, IT, and Support functions
  • Champion data-driven decision-making across the organization

Why you can make a difference

You combine proven financial expertise with business acumen and data literacy. With a Master’s in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration and 4-7 years of relevant experience, you understand both the technical and strategic aspects of cost control. You excel at stakeholder management, can translate complex data into compelling narratives, and aren’t afraid to take calculated risks to drive improvement. Most importantly, your combination of analytical rigor and practical business sense ensures financially sound decision-making.

  • Excel escapist Your idea of model maintenance is hitting F9 and hoping for the best
  • Passive mode You prefer critiquing from the sidelines to driving financial accountability
  • Tiny targeter You optimize for team targets and ignore the company-wide impact
  • Value optimizer You believe in funding innovation to continue improving healthy cost structures
  • Data storyteller Your financial insights inspire action because you make numbers tell compelling stories
  • Stakeholder whisperer You build trust by setting clear expectations and consistently delivering on commitments

Where you'll work

You’ll join our Finance team at the epicenter of bol’s financial operations. Here, you’ll work alongside peers who combine analytical expertise with business pragmatism to accelerate the growth of our retail tech platform. Our open, collaborative, and energetic culture reflects our position as a market leader and data-driven innovator. With your expertise in financial modeling and cost optimization, you’ll help shape how we balance employee happiness with a healthy cost structure, and commercial success with sustainability.

Bij bol leveren onze collega’s een unieke bijdrage om het dagelijks leven makkelijker te maken.
