Join us in shaping the future of quantum computing!
Job Description
We are looking for a nanofabrication quantum engineer to join the Vandersypen lab at QuTech. Our team is dynamic and inclusive, with each member bringing unique perspectives and expertise to innovative research in semiconductor quantum technology.
The Vandersypen lab studies quantum computation and quantum simulation using gate-defined semiconductor quantum dots. We invent and test novel methods for qubit control, readout, and scaling, and explore emergent physical phenomena that arise from interacting charges and spins. A foundational aspect of making an impact and enabling advances in this domain is the realization of high-quality semiconductor quantum devices. This requires continuous improvement of fabrication routines to push the state of the art and a strong methodological approach to ensure reliable and reproducible quantum devices.
As a quantum engineer responsible for fabrication, you will interact with various groups at QuTech working on the development of semiconductor quantum technology to optimize collective progress, particularly collaborating with the team focused on growing high-quality heterostructures (Scappucci lab). While operating primarily from the Vandersypen lab, you will also support other QuTech groups, particularly the Veldhorst group.
We offer you a unique opportunity where every day brings new challenges and where, as part of a team, you will contribute to cutting-edge research in quantum computing and semiconductor technology.
Key Responsibilities
Qualifications
Whether you are about to complete your Ph.D. with experience in fabrication and nanolithography, or you are an experienced quantum engineer, this role is tailored for you! We value not only experience and skills but also your passion for this field and the right attitude. Whether you are junior or senior, we will adapt the role, provide appropriate training or challenges, and support your growth and success in this position.
We are also committed to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, and we strongly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:
TU Delft
Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers, both in business and in a social context.
At TU Delft we embrace diversity as one of our core values and we actively engage to be a university where you feel at home and can flourish. We value different perspectives and qualities. We believe this makes our work more innovative, the TU Delft community more vibrant and the world more just. Together, we imagine, invent and create solutions using technology to have a positive impact on a global scale. That is why we invite you to apply. Your application will receive fair consideration.
Challenge. Change. Impact!
QuTech
QuTech is a mission-driven research institute of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). Together, we work on radically new technologies with world-changing potential. Our mission: to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and a quantum internet by integrating world-class research and groundbreaking innovation. Through excellence, relevance, and leadership, we cultivate a vibrant quantum technology ecosystem. We are jointly creating the quantum future, because we believe that quantum technologies can be a game changer in many societal and economic sectors, including health, agriculture and safety. Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum Computing, Quantum Internet and Qubit Research. The Quantum Engineer position is for the Computing division.
Quantum Computing division
Realizing the promise of a quantum computer requires the development of different layers of hardware and software, together referred to as the quantum computing stack. This is what we do in the Quantum Computing Division. The basis of the stack, referred to as the ‘quantum chip’, contains the qubits. We are investigating different types of approaches for this part of the stack: electron spins in quantum dots and superconducting quantum circuits. Also, we are developing the system architecture that connects and translates quantum algorithms to the low-level pulses that operate on the qubits of quantum processors.
