At bol we want to make sure that all partners have a great experience on our platform while being compliant with our policies. We have more than 50K partners, and it is our challenge to monitor and facilitate those partners, see how we – through our platform – can help them grow, improve their performance and find those who don’t meet our standards and help or offboard them. All of this we do through micro services and tools that make sure we are in control of processes as well as all data involved.

The product Partner Lifecycle Management is looking for a Lead Engineer to join the journey, to help build and maintain solutions to integrate communication to our partners, automate and simplify sales processes and increase partner marketing opportunities. As a Lead Engineer in this team, you will work together with 5 engineers, a technical/functional business liaison and a product manager. You have experience in functionally leading the engineers and of course you are also directly collaborating with internal stakeholders and users.

What you do as a Lead Engineer at Partner Lifecycle Management

What do you do as a Lead Engineer at Partner Lifecycle Management? The team is responsible for the services and tools that combines the triangle of the Tech Platform, the Partner and the Platform Employees. We do this through different solutions on Service Management, Relationship Management, Marketing Automation and Profile provisioning, all with the bol partner in the center of this universe.

As Lead Engineer in this position you are not only responsible for writing new code to develop new services, you’re also testing the solutions that were created before going live. Moreover, maintaining and looking for continuous optimization when operational is also highly important. Autonomy in the team is an important value at bol of course within the general framework and architecture that ensures our long-term (technical) coherence. As a lead engineer you’re not only an added value to the technical conscience of the team, you are also full of enthusiasm and energy, and are able to pass that energy and drive over to the team and its stakeholders. Although you are not hierarchically their manager, you have a natural talent to lead the other engineers and facilitate their personal growth. Of course, you do this together with the Engineering Manager, who they (and you) report to. At the same time you are a firm conversationalist in the alignment on product discoveries and experimentation with the business. We have a user team with representatives from all parts of the user organization, that all have their own problems to solve. You will add value there by thinking along in technical feasibility and challenging technical choices. By doing that you contribute directly to the development and growth of the maturity of the team, bringing it to a higher level of performance, productivity and quality.

As a Lead Engineer within Partner Lifecycle Management your main responsibilities will be:

  • Analyzing, developing, testing and deploying new innovations
  • Maintaining the opex of the team.
  • Actively participating in the product-led way of working, meaning that you work closely together with business-, product-, and data-counterparts in the early stages of the innovation process, experimenting to see with what initiatives we can improve the partner handling and experience.
  • Participate in the optimization for the Partner Relationship Management tool (OnePRM) based on MS Dynamics.
  • Being the technical sparring partner for the engineering manager.
  • Being an excellent team player.

We are looking for a person that:

  • Is outgoing and has positive energy
  • Is not shy of a sharp (constructive) discussion
  • Believes in the agile/iterative approach
  • Wants to learn
  • Can motivate and inspire others
  • Has a “build team but take personal action and responsibility” mentality

Tech skills/experience
A good portion of these Must Haves:

  • Java (8 or higher)
  • Spring Framework
  • SQL
  • Google Cloud
  • Kubernetes
  • General Development design principles
  • CI/CD
  • Angular/Typescrypt/Cypress

Nice To Haves:

  • Kotlin
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Python
  • Apache Airflow and Beam
  • Cucumber
  • Pub/Sub
  • DBT
  • You just want to write code because analyzing, testing and maintaining a service is not for you
  • You shine only when others fail, instead of shining by letting others shine even more
  • You only focus on IT, because you’re not interested in the business problems to solve
  • You like working in an international environment with people from all over the world
  • You like building complex teams with both internal and external colleagues
  • You like to be at the heart of where bol. IT manages its partners

Where you’ll work

As a Lead Engineer you’re not only a member of the Partner Lifecycle management Product, you are also part of the Partner Acquisition Management and Enablement Area and the Partner Journey Domain. We aim to check, guide and activate partners to safeguard a high quality partner experience. Specifically for Partner Lifecycle Management improving the growth path of our platform partners is key. A lot of fancy words to express our dedication to improving the lives of our customers and partners through close collaboration, innovative thinking and vigor. Although we’ve grown to become a leading online retail platform in the Benelux we still think and breath start-up energy. The Product-Led way of working we use adds to this dynamic working environment, it ensures a intense collaboration with Business, Product and Data teams involving you in the early stages of innovations and making you understand the business context and background of these innovations.

Bol is de winkel van ons allemaal (the store of us all). This is the story we work on every day.
