Lead Mechanical Engineer with Hydraulics Affinity

The Innovations division has the mission to enable Allseas’ future through in-house innovation, optimising our mission equipment and driving our strategic businesses further. In recent years, many of these innovations have been developed, for example, the unique Topside and Jacket lifting systems onboard Pioneering Spirit and the development of the Deep-sea nodule collection system onboard the Hidden Gem. At Innovations, we optimise the current and realise the new. And that is where we need you: to contribute to the design and engineering that enhance our capabilities and improve the efficiencies of some of the world’s most technically advanced offshore equipment. 🚢

Your role

Within the Innovation division, the Structural, Mechanical and Geotechnical department is responsible for providing engineered solutions to maintain and enhance the Allseas’ fleet and its equipment. You will join the multi-disciplinary mechanical team with a focus on mechanical-hydraulic systems. The team works on optimizing existing mechanical equipment with hydraulic systems for drive and control and on the development of new hydraulic systems. Examples include winches, launch and recovery systems, skidding systems, pipelay equipment, and track drives. Most projects come with unique capabilities that are pushing the boundaries of technology.

Within the team, you keep an overview of the ongoing projects and their priorities. You have regular contact with work package lead engineers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth planning and distribution of the work. You will assemble requirements, conduct detailed analysis, simulations, and testing to validate design and ensure that the design meets performance, quality standards, and safety. You will set up and lead design reviews, brainstorm sessions, and problem-solving initiatives. Together with your team, you will cooperate with, and review the work of System Integrators.

What we expect from you

We are looking for a candidate that is keen on the interface between mechanical, hydraulic, and control system engineering. You understand what is needed to develop mechanical drive systems. You are solution-minded and resourceful and have the ability to work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities. You have the ability to learn concepts and technical details of complex systems. You thrive by working in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Besides this, you have:

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant experience in the offshore industry, and some years in a role as lead (project) engineer, senior mechanical engineer, or senior hydraulics engineer.
  • Proven knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic system engineering and awareness of other engineering disciplines like electrical, functional safety, and control & automation.
  • Experience with various project phases, from concept towards commissioning onboard our vessels.
  • Affinity and/or experience with 2D and 3D modelling software (Autocad, Inventor).
  • Experience with Hydrosym is a plus.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to work offshore occasionally, depending on the nature of the project you are working on.

What we offer you

Working at Allseas allows you the chance to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, with creative thinking, collaboration, and down-to-earth culture at its core.

You can expect:

  • Competitive industry benchmarked salary and pension.
  • Performance-based salary raises and bonuses.
  • 30 holidays days per year, flexible working hours.
  • Extensive training and development programme, study budget, and coaching.
  • Company-sponsored fitness scheme.
  • Internal clubs, committees, parties, and (sportive) events.
