Functie inhoud

We are seeking a motivated PhD student to join our lab at Erasmus University Medical Centre in Rotterdam, exploring the gene regulatory mechanisms underpinning cardiovascular diseases.

Type 2 diabetes and elevated blood lipid levels are major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified numerous genetic variants linked to such traits, but the biological mechanisms behind these associations remain unclear. We use population genomics, multi-omics datasets and single cell profiling to bridge the gap between genetic discoveries and clinical application.

The PhD project will focus on a data-driven approach to construct novel polygenic scores and gene regulatory networks using data from large cohorts and in-house experiments on patient-specific iPSC-derived pancreatic cells. The candidate will play a key role in shaping the project and contributing to innovative research, with the ultimate goal of advancing personalised treatments.

Werkomgeving

Our newly established lab is part of the department of internal medicine, the largest department of Erasmus University Medical Centre. Collaboration is at the heart of our research, working closely with clinicians, lab core facilities, and data-driven researchers in various departments.
