Introduction to role

Vanderlande is a global market leader in material handling systems. Working within Heathrow projects, the Senior Site Manager will be responsible for elevating the leadership standard within the construction team and delivery of both baggage and non-baggage work packages in line with the programme schedule operating inside the VI site management structure within large and complex projects. Working out of our London Office and mainly site based to ensure achieving customer excellence for our key account portfolio within Heathrow.

Acting as an enabler for the team’s mission and vision harnessing leadership with a drive to set standards and positively collaborate with an everyday better mindset where safety culture and promotion forms the foundation of execution.

Understand the value and dynamic nature of people with the demonstrable ability to motivate and achieve results through mentorship and coaching against a backdrop of continuous personal growth building the future leaders within the business and strengthening the capability of the team against the strategy and core values.

Role Responsibilities

As a senior member of the construction team the role will set and promote the required leadership standards through empathy, conviction, and clarity. Be an ambassador for best practice where curiosity and self-awareness form the baseline for success, enhancing collaboration through serving our internal stakeholders and creating a productive and effective environment.

Serving our internal and external customers against a backdrop of ownership and accountability, the execution of the role will be underpinned by promotion of both physical and psychological safety acting as a positive role model as part of an inclusive culture with a givers mindset.

Your responsibilities and activities will include:

  • A robust and comprehensive understanding of people leadership with demonstrable execution.
  • Champion process adherence and improvement through collaboration and engagement with stakeholders
  • Aware of dependencies and intricacies of cultural make up and human behaviour
  • Be an ambassador for Vanderlande’s stay safe culture, striving for achievement of zero LTI’s and RIDDORs on site
  • Build and promote an inclusive culture targeting growth and industry leading mindsets
  • Demonstrably improve leadership standards to enhance the teams brand
  • Responsible for liaison and interface management with clients and stakeholders
  • Focal point for driving right first-time installations and client acceptance through driving gateway achievement and project milestones
  • Desire to grow and develop through self-awareness and appetite to actively seek feedback
  • Support with the team mission and vision
  • Proactively seek and identify optimisation and ability to influence others within the team to support successful achievement and alignment with continuous improvement initiatives, embedding best practice whilst driving a positive safety culture.

  • Support the Construction Group Leader/s with initiatives, positively influencing others within both the site team and stakeholders.

  • Capable of exercising a dynamic approach which requires adaptability to style and execution tactics to build leadership standards

  • Demonstrable ability to communicate with all levels of a team positively achieving the right outcome.

  • Ability to balance competing priorities whilst maintaining a safe environment and meeting deadlines in a pressured, time critical delivery.

Role Qualification and Skills

  • 5-10 years in a leadership role primarily focused on people management
  • Understanding of people leadership principals and demonstrable people development skills
  • 5+ years experience in successfully managing large teams during delivery of large and complex projects in a demanding environment with proven results
  • Successful proven implementation of all phases within a project lifecycle, ranging from pre-construction through to handover
  • Awareness and solid understanding of CDM Regulations and HASWA
  • Experience in building culture and championing change
  • Ability to create robust site planning to complement the master project schedule through owning the last planner process
  • Production, validation and execution of documentation deliverables
  • IT literate, capable of using MS Office and Outlook as a minimum
  • Proven Safety record through stewardship within time critical and pressurized working environments
  • Possess the ability to champion Vanderlande’s Stay Safe Culture and safe working ethos
  • Be able to provide robust reports and drive progress whilst maintaining Vanderlande’s quality standards
  • Commercial awareness and ability to demonstrate successful management

Preferred Qualifications

  • SMSTS Trained as a minimum
  • NVQ Level 5 in Strategic Management & Leadership or equivalent
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or higher
  • CSCS Black Management Card
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training or equivalent
