We’re looking for a skilled engineer passionate about integrated photonics packaging, eager to drive innovation in this rapidly advancing field. As an Optical Design Engineer, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking advancements in integrated photonics through two pioneering centers: the Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC) and the Chip integration Technology Center (CITC). Both, founded by TNO and its partners. PITC specializes in photonic chips for sectors such as mobility, healthcare, and communications, addressing needs like road safety, health monitoring, and secure, energy-efficient data transmission. CITC leads in semiconductor and chip packaging, advancing versatile and compact applications. These two initiatives provide an ideal environment for cutting-edge R&D in photonic design and packaging. In this dynamic role, you will be involved in both CITC and PITC, working at our locations in Nijmegen and Eindhoven.
You will work on groundbreaking assembly packaging technology for integrated photonics. Your work is at the intersection of materials science, process technology, front-end technology, back-end technology, and integrated photonics.
Your main responsibilities will include:Preferably, you have 3+ years of work experience in the integrated photonics industry, in the field of optical design. Your knowledge of optical interconnect technology and optical modelling software such as Zemax, Lumerical or similar is excellent. You have a hands-on mentality and are able to organize practical work in an efficient and collaborative manner.

Jeroen van den Brand, Hiring manager
Jeroen van den Brand received his M.Sc. (2000) and Ph.D (2004) degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. From 2004 until 2007 he worked at FujiFilm in Tilburg, the Netherlands on the development and roll-to-roll manufacturing of offset printing plates. In 2007 he started at Holst Centre as a Researcher where over the years he had various roles. Since 2018, Jeroen is Research Manager of the Hybrid Printed Electronics department. Next to this, Jeroen has a guest professorship at the University of Ghent, Belgium on the topic of Printed Electronics.
