About the job

At Danone, manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire a Packaging Supervisor – Days based in our yogurt manufacturing plant in West Jordan, Utah.

In this role, you will support the operations within our packaging cell by managing and mobilizing a team of hourly associates to ensure Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals are met. You will ensure compliance with all SOP’s, QAR’s, Plant Standards (including GMP, AIB, FDA, DaMaWay, Quality, Safety Finance, ISO, and non-conformance management). You will be responsible for the operational performance of your assigned shift and will drive accountability through strong leadership. You will set consistent expectations, promote a positive team atmosphere, work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure production requirements are met, and champion employee involvement.

Work Schedule

6AM - 6PM every other Wednesday, Thursday - Saturday.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Regular, formal, and informal evaluations and feedback on the performance of hourly associates.
  • Validation of time and attendance through daily and weekly reviews of your employee timecards using the Dayforce payroll system.
  • Addressing employee concerns and escalating to the next level leadership as needed.
  • Administering discipline as required for job performance, attendance, or contract violations.
  • Conducting pre-shift meetings with in-coming operators to discuss previous shift topics, SQCDMN metrics, and general plant communication.
  • Studying manufacturing production and shipping schedules, identifying gaps and risks, and collaborating with the manager and peers to balance the work schedule.
  • Identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Improving and maintaining communicated performance standards; managing with flexibility to react as needed when breakdowns arise.
  • Performing root cause analysis, problem-solving, and follow-up for operational and safety incidents.
  • Developing root cause analysis using 5-Why, Fishbone diagram, etc.
  • Leading and participating in continuous improvement efforts including AM, PM management, 5S, DMS, etc.
  • Ensuring sound communication systems are in place so all employees can participate in continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About you

All are required, except where noted as preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in an engineering field (chemical, mechanical, electrical, or industrial) and at least 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing/packaging environment. Candidates with at least 5 years of manufacturing experience will be considered if they do not have a bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement and/or lean manufacturing experience.
  • Quantitative analysis skills including budgeting and loss analysis.
  • Familiarity with CIP/HAACP/AIB is preferred.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Flexible, adaptable, persistent, resilient, resourceful, proactive, able to stay calm under stress.
  • Strong leadership, influential ability, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Analytical with demonstrated problem-solving, troubleshooting, conflict management, and decision-making skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to schedule activity; process-oriented; able to implement process improvements.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement processes (Lean, TPM, etc.), especially for equipment reliability.
  • Knowledge of inventory and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication skills, organized, detail-oriented, effective time management and prioritization skills, and a solid work ethic.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and support a 24/7 production environment as needed, which may include day or night shifts and occasional weekends.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to touch and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; taste and/or smell, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to bend and stoop at waist level as well as twist neck and head.
  • Regularly endure lifting 10 lbs. up to 52 lbs and occasionally up to 75 lbs. Requires normal hearing and vision (including colors).
  • Occasionally may need to climb stairs, step ladders, or stool.
