Lead our engineering team at Jumbo and work with a smile on customer-focused, innovative cloud solutions.

Working with and for a smile Jumbo’s ambition is to be the most customer-oriented company. We want to surprise customers and exceed expectations, so they enjoy shopping with us. With over 700 stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, the option to have groceries delivered to their homes via jumbo.com, our own distribution centers, and our office colleagues, we work together with all our colleagues every day towards that ambition. Working together to win the customer for us is what we strive for at Jumbo.
Jumbo Colleague, Jumbo Team

Let’s get started! This is what you’ll do

In your role as Lead Engineering, you foster a culture where "Continuous Improvement" is key. You ensure open, transparent communication and support a healthy work-life balance. The core values of the Jumbo DNA – Together, Winning, and Entrepreneurship – are central to this.

A key task is the assistance you provide in the development of your team members. By regularly conducting 1-on-1 conversations, giving constructive feedback, and linking this to a long-term development plan, you shape this process.

In addition to coaching, you are also responsible for recruiting the right people, monitoring the quality, costs, and stability of delivered platforms and software. You ensure that your teams take full responsibility for their implementations. “You build it, you run it, you own it!”

To support all this effectively, you maintain close contacts with the Cloud Architect and Product Owner Hosting/Infra. Together, you determine the direction of the Hosting & Infra platform teams. As part of this scope, the team also delivers Developer Tooling and helps other teams develop software independently through “Cloud Enablement”.

Some Infra and Cloud services are outsourced to suppliers. In your role, you periodically coordinate the service delivery with the respective parties and, with input from your team, develop a plan to achieve structural improvements. You decide together with your stakeholders and teams whether tasks are handled internally or by a partner.

Your workday as Lead Engineering at Jumbo:

  • 09:00 – 09:30 Attend team standups to stay informed and provide assistance where needed.
  • 10:00 – 10:30 1-on-1 with a team member to discuss the progress of their personal development plan.
  • 11:00 – 12:00 Meeting with one of the suppliers to discuss the quality of the delivered software.
  • 13:00 – 14:00 Weekly meeting with fellow Lead Engineers within the Platform domain.
  • 15:00 – 16:00 Prepare for the weekly meeting with the Cloud Architect and Product Owner Hosting/Infra

Together we are Jumbo: This is where you’ll work

Your teams consist mainly of senior cloud engineers and solution engineers. The teams work in a hybrid model, but there are fixed office days in Veghel every week. The teams are made up of employees from various nationalities, so the working language is English.

Typically you

At Jumbo, we are looking for go-getters, people with good ideas and the courage to work together on them. We care for each other: our customers, colleagues, and the world around us, and we want to do a little better every day. All our (future) colleagues bring a healthy dose of Jumbo DNA with them, and so do you! Additionally, you also have:

  • At least 10 years of experience in managing teams and leading senior engineers.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate, and guide teams, and support team members in their professional development.
  • Understanding of infrastructure, hosting, and cloud technologies, and keeping up with new industry standards and emerging trends.
  • Problem-solving skills. You make things possible for the customer. "Can't be done? Yes, it can!"

What do you get from us?

At Jumbo, you will find a working environment with warmth, fun, and attention to each other, where you have plenty of room to contribute to our ambition to become the most customer-oriented company. And just as you are there for our customers, we are there for you. You can count on:

  • A gross salary between €5.500 - €7.100 per month (based on 40 hours).
  • An annual bonus of max 10% of your annual salary, based on organizational goals.
  • 30 days of paid holiday (with the opportunity to buy or sell days of paid holiday) and 8% holiday allowance. You build up a pension through participation in the Pension Fund for the Food Industry.
  • A(n) (electric) lease car. We like to work together in the office, but you can also work partly from home.
  • Room for entrepreneurship, growth and development. Not only in your job but also through our Jumbo Academy, online training through GoodHabitz and with a training budget.
  • Daily fresh lunch in our Foodcafé, good coffee and fresh fruit. You can sport daily at our own Jumbo Gym for a small fee.
  • Colleague discounts such as 10% off your groceries (up to €325 per year), participation in our collective health insurance, or discounts through Beneftits at Work.
