Senior Associate or Manager Accounting

The DPP Accounting team consists of a core team of approximately nine experienced professionals topped up with those rotating in and out from our assurance department. We are passionate about accounting, care about the firm, have fun along the way—and all we do, we do with audit quality in mind. We are dedicated to supporting your career development through providing a work environment where you can excel. Join us to be part of a team that values continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation.

Your challenges

Financial reporting lies at the core of our audit business, it is what we audit and what we use to model and plan our audit approach. Our audit opinion communicates about the reporting entity's financial reporting. For a high quality audit, we need to have a good understanding of the relevant financial reporting requirements and their application. DPP Accounting contributes to KPMG’s key objectives through:

  • Delivering high quality responses to consultations while fostering a healthy consultation experience
  • Identifying and communicating changes in laws, regulations, and accounting standards including emerging issues and hot topics
  • Developing training, tools, and guidance
  • Contributing to other audit quality initiatives and various accounting-related projects

This is what you bring

  • Master's degree and professional RA (Dutch CPA) qualification or equivalent (completed or in progress)
  • Relevant work experience (approximately 4 to 8 years) in audit and/or accounting
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills in English (and Dutch as preference)
  • Knowledge of and experience with IFRS (and preferably Dutch GAAP), strong project and people management skills, team player

Although the role is about technical accounting, to be successful a sound dose of curiosity and people skills comes in handy. It is all about understanding the specific facts and circumstances and the underlying rationale while liaising with audit professionals. The role involves focusing on understanding the detail while at the same time it's important to zoom out and assess the bigger picture. In KPMG, there is room for entrepreneurship and we are looking for a colleague who feels accountable for the quality of their own work to advance the firm. If you possess a critical eye, are hands-on, and focus on creating synergies between departments and teams, then we challenge you to expand your skillset as you take control of your career in accounting. We offer access to ongoing professional development programs designed to enhance your expertise and keep you at the forefront of accounting developments.

What will you do in this position?

Relevant DPP Accounting activities and projects include:

  • Dealing with (complex) consultations on judgmental IFRS and Dutch GAAP accounting matters
  • Developing and updating accounting tools to support our audit professionals like accounting papers, disclosure checklists, Illustrative financial statements, etc.
  • Developing and presenting training for both our audit professionals and clients on (developments in) financial reporting standards
  • Contributing to KPMG accounting thought leadership and influencing developments and changes in the accounting arena through active participation in (committees of) the Dutch Accounting Standards Board and for IFRS via our global and EMA ISG infrastructure, and external organizations such as Accountancy Europe and EFRAG
  • Performing pre-issuance reviews of financial statements
  • Providing technical accounting expertise to other KPMG departments that perform, for example, internal quality reviews or are involved in inspections by regulators
  • Creating and sharing thought leadership on accounting developments in internal and external publications
