  • You are pursuing a relevant Master's degree with a demonstrable focus on sustainability and/or business. Candidates who have already graduated and are not enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the internship are not eligible for this position.
  • A cover letter is required. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.

Your New Job and Workplace

Health and Sustainability (H&S) is one of our key strategic priorities and is a central part of our culture and values within Ahold Delhaize. We have a clear mission: to ensure people – our brands’ customers, associates, and communities – make healthier and more sustainable choices, and live on the planet in a healthier, more sustainable way.

Our Group Health & Sustainability (H&S) team includes a small H&S Europe & Indonesia team made up of a Director and a Specialist who will supervise you. The team is passionate about driving systemic change and maximizing impact. The H&S team aims to achieve this by connecting brands, leveraging knowledge and embracing innovation.

The teams across Ahold Delhaize brands innovate continuously to make products more nutritious and sustainable. Our diverse, passionate H&S team is a strong combination of strategic professionals and sustainability experts on topics ranging from ESG governance, carbon emissions, healthy and sustainable diets, nature & biodiversity, to how we can reduce food and plastic waste.

As an intern in our H&S Europe & Indonesia team you contribute directly to the exciting journey of delivering Ahold Delhaize’s H&S strategy. You get the chance to explore topics and support experts on for instance climate, food waste, health, plastics at one of the world's largest food retail groups. Joining the company alongside many other interns, you’ll be onboarding together with peers as part of your exciting learning journey. As an intern you will support activities such as:

  • Keep track of best practices across our brands. For example, helping an expert in the wider Group H&S team with making compelling overviews of initiatives that reduce food waste, plastic packaging or emissions that could be scaled from one brand to another.
  • Conducting relevant desk research. For example, helping our brands with information needs and/or market analysis in support of topic-specific plans.
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations and SharePoint pages: from creation of content to fine-tuning or maintaining documents – whether of a strategic nature, an annual plan or organizational charts of those working on sustainability in the region.
  • Internal engagement & capability building initiatives. For example, coordination of the internal engagement initiative “Ahold Delhaize Impact Cinema” (which includes a partnership with the WaterBear Network) or “Creatives for Change” (an internal learning platform for colleagues who are focused on customer engagement).
  • Light support to the H&S Europe & Indonesia Director with practical tasks. For example, to support the logistics, preparation and follow-up of meetings with larger groups.

This is an internship where you’ll be working as part of the team, it is not a research internship that can be combined with, for example, in-house thesis research.

We think it is important that you at Ahold Delhaize can be yourself in an environment that is open to different perspectives, an environment in which we are curious and appreciate each other. For this position we are preferably looking for someone who will strengthen the diversity in our team, in the broadest sense of the word. Someone who brings a different sound based on their own background and personal qualities and is therefore a good addition to our team.
