Senior

Tech & Data

32-40 hours

You operate at the intersection of Flight Operations and IT. You build, manage, and integrate the systems at the heart of KLM's flight operation.

Thanks to your work, our crew members have crew pre and on flight support and ensure that they can brief before flights, check-in, check-in their baggage, have crew documents on time, arrange their transportation needs, have their meals arranged and supported before and during the flight. The flight preparation is made available thanks to your efforts and seamlessly meets the needs of the crew. How can we assist our crew members, and how can we best serve the business's needs? This is a question you ask yourself daily with close connection to our crew center.

Your work is crucial to the KLM group's flight operation. Sometimes you are implementing software at home or in the office (Schiphol-Oost), and on other days, you can be found in the KLM Crew Center collaborating with our crew to improve our services.

What will you do?

The impact of what you do is significant. In fact, without the software you develop, our crew cannot operate flights smoothly, or the operation would be very inefficient. We probably wouldn’t fly at all!

Here's a summary of your tasks:

You translate the KLM crews questions and needs into technical solutions, using your broad process and IT knowledge.

You program mostly in Java, you can find your way with Angular.

You contribute to the "Move-to-Cloud" migration that the team is currently undergoing.

With your analytical skills, you understand operational data and integrate it into business processes. Business analyses are also part of the job.

You keep your professional knowledge up to date by attending trainings and actively participating in the engineers’ community of practice.

You are willing to mentor your fellow engineers in the team.

You are willing to be available for the support on a rotating basis, 24x7, and of course, you discuss this with your team.

Where do you land?

Platform Flight is part of the Data & Technology organization within KLM IT. Within the platform, there are eight value streams and different teams that collaborate with different parties within KLM such as pilots, crew, mechanics, and flight planners.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary team, where you will be very close to the operation in a small and well-coordinated team. We are both generalists and specialists, which creates a lot of dynamics, and it's "never a dull moment." Because we understand that you may not be entirely familiar with the subject matter, you will be assigned a buddy who will teach you the ins and outs of the job.

Your profile

You are a curious and proactive team player who feels at home in our Scrum/Agile environment. You are interested in the aviation world, and you quickly acquire new professional knowledge. You are flexible in responding to changes. With your strong communication skills, you effortlessly switch between different stakeholders: from crew members to pilots to flight dispatchers and IT professionals. Thanks to your helicopter view, you keep an overview, and with the business's needs in mind, you look for what is possible. Your "getting things done" mentality takes you far, as does your methodical and analytical approach, and you put all your energy into continuously improving KLM and our department.

What else do you bring?

Your papers! That means an HBO or WO diploma with a technical (IT) background or relevant working experience.

You have experience programming in Java.

You can find your way in Angular and frontend, implementing features end to end.

Because we are an international group, you speak English, and Dutch is a plus.

Knowledge of REST APIs and SOA is a plus.

You have experience working on Cloud environments such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.

Experience working on or setting up a development pipeline.

Finally, and not entirely unimportant for us, you have a good sense of humor :-)
