Department-Team Purpose

The principal purpose of the team is to design, create, and manage the overarching program management for the operational integration of the short- and long-term network planning in Europe. The Road Network team provides analysis and support for the decision-making processes underpinning the critical strategic choices for long-term road network infrastructure investments.

The focus is on profit-driven day-to-day capacity planning of our domestic and international networks, ensuring that current assets are optimized, and overall operational costs will be reduced.

The function can be described in short as an exciting and challenging position at the heart of the organization and you will be working in an international team with international colleagues.

Job Purpose, Key Activities, and Responsibilities

The scope of the position is to support the delivery and improvement of an optimal domestic and international network planning process for both the short- and long-term horizon.

  • Together with a team of analytical network and business experts, provide fact-based quantified answers to a wide range of road network business questions leading to direct decision-making by Senior Leadership.
  • Support the holistic Road P&E integration and base network planning to ensure alignment with local teams regarding optimal planning and execution of infrastructure and network planning.
  • Supporting business-critical linehaul modelling/guidance (LION, etc).
  • Support end-to-end modelling initiatives (support Dataworks).
  • Support various ERN-wide and domestic DRIVE initiatives (including Sort-Time Windows).
  • Support a wide range of planned service improvements (Transit-Time alignment).
  • Review all data sourcing, quality, and availability for use in network planning solutions.
  • Support the implementation of other projects/initiatives where necessary.
  • Contribute successfully to complex projects to develop new or enhance existing systems, processes, procedures, and controls that enable effective management of network plans.

Skills

  • Proven strong business analytical skills and insights in supply chains to support key short- and long-term strategic decisions.
  • Knowledge of the current Operations process & systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to communicate and present at all levels within the organization both written and verbal in native and English language, other languages are valuable.
  • Proficient use of Office applications (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • The ability to translate analysis into to-the-point PowerPoint presentations to support executive decision-making processes.
  • Experienced user with data modelling tools and able to work with large datasets in Excel and Access.
  • Ability to work with, or eagerness to learn (statistics) software or general programming skills (R, Python, VBA) other database software (SQL) visualization tools Spotfire, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
  • Analytical thinker with a creative and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Prioritizing skills and a flexible approach to work to support the ever-changing dynamic business environment.
  • Active team player who focuses on continuous improvements, is highly motivated, result-oriented, and likes to work in an international environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or higher education degree/ University degree (Econometrics/ Operations Research / Logistics). HBO + qualification with some experience in (Express) transportation and in operational network planning and engineering is also welcomed.
