Do you want to contribute to Damen’s digital solutions on board our vessels for the short and long term? Are you interested in the field of ship building and ship operation through remote monitoring? Damen Digital Solutions is indispensable in the realization of Damen’s ambition to become the most sustainable and digitally connected shipyard in the world. We are an independent startup company within the Damen Group, with a multidisciplinary team of 30 enthusiastic people who enjoy innovations.

Damen Digital Solutions is divided into three main activities: on board automation, remote monitoring, and simulations. These technologies enable a long-term vision toward autonomous functionalities. By analyzing current operations and reporting performances, we give insights into subjects such as fuel consumption, emissions, and utilization. This way, we support ship owners in making their fleet more sustainable and profitable.

The Role

The digital revolution is reshaping industries, including shipping. In shipping, digitalization and the use of data have a huge impact. Rapidly developing disciplines like computer science, measurement technology, and data science are essential for Damen to stay ahead of the competition and create more business value. Damen Digital Solutions, focusing on added value from data, is maturely expanding during the upcoming years to secure connections with shipowners and support them with data-driven solutions.

As a Data Engineer, you will support Damen Digital Solutions, their clients, and the Damen customers. You will participate in various projects with strong support from fellow dedicated team members.

Key Accountabilities

• Determining requirements for the application of data science methods to business questions.
• Using advanced analytical and machine learning methods to extract value from business data.
• Building data-driven models and reports to generate consumer insights and help Damen Digital Solutions address product development challenges.
• Giving insights to product teams through presentation of data-driven recommendations.
• Contributing to the Damen analytical tools.
• Identifying new business opportunities using data science methodologies.

Skills & Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or econometrics.
• 1-3 years of experience with a foundational understanding of the business context.
• Good understanding of data analytics processes, data science methodologies, and machine learning applications.
• Ability to distill actionable insights from analysis for a non-technical audience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
• Familiarity with analytics platforms and tools like DataBricks, Azure Synapse, and Power BI.
• Excellent team collaboration capabilities and a curious and proactive attitude towards problem-solving.
• A growth mindset with a keen interest in continuous development and learning.
