THE ROLE

Damen Naval is looking for an experienced Technical Specialist Preservation, Welding, Adhesives to join our research & technology support group. This team of specialists plays a crucial role in driving innovation, supporting modern technology developments, and advising on shipbuilding projects. In this dynamic position, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance on preservation, welding, and adhesive technologies, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting both the production and proposal phases of projects.

As a key player in our team, you will as Technical Specialist Preservation, Welding, Adhesives offer technical advice on various engineering subjects, contribute to research initiatives, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Your expertise will be critical in developing standards and managing complex projects across Damen Naval's operations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As Technical Specialist Preservation, Welding, Adhesives you will:

  • Drafting and assessing contractual specifications related to preservation, welding, and adhesives for shipbuilding projects.
  • Developing technical specifications and instructions based on contractual documents and classification requirements, ensuring seamless execution during production.
  • Managing and maintaining ISO 3834 welding activities, advising on corrosion prevention, and bonding techniques for primary and secondary structures.
  • Collaborating with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and engineers to ensure smooth project execution and compliance with technical standards.
  • Leading research initiatives and providing technical expertise on preservation, welding, and bonding across a variety of projects.
  • Ensuring adherence to regulations and policies while establishing and maintaining clear operational protocols for compliance.
  • Conducting internal audits, facilitating third-party inspections, and preparing compliance reports for internal and external parties.
  • Supporting design reviews and overseeing quality engineering throughout the production phase, ensuring deliverables are met within agreed schedules and budgets.
  • Promoting and actively contributing to the development of innovative solutions in your field of expertise.
  • Playing a key role in knowledge transfer and ensuring the continuous improvement of departmental processes and tools.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To excel as Technical Specialist Preservation, Welding, Adhesives you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in corrosion protection technology or material sciences.
  • Qualification in FROSIO painting, IWE welding, or alternatively an IWT welding certificate.
  • Experience working in complex project environments, ideally in shipbuilding or a related industry.
  • Effective communication skills, with experience liaising with research institutes, universities, engineers, and project managers.
  • A structured, decisive, and problem-solving mindset with a strong affinity for the maritime industry.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
