In this role, you will join the Barclays International financial control team, taking a senior position in supporting the financial control and reporting functions for various business elements. You will engage with multiple areas outside Finance to gain a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end control framework and address any key control exceptions. Your responsibilities will include maintaining effective financial control, ensuring clear communication, and managing stakeholder expectations. You will ensure that monthly control cycle timelines and deadlines are met, including journal posting, month-end close, reconciliations, and control reviews. Additionally, you will escalate and investigate risks and areas of concern promptly, liaise with operations teams to remediate any errors or concerns highlighted through monthly/daily controls, and support the submission of monthly, quarterly, and yearly regulatory and statutory reporting. Furthermore, you will assist your line manager and team in developing new or amended processes and deliverables following project changes, ensuring these changes are understood and documented. You will also provide finance support for the implementation of new products and manage any end-to-end changes for finance.

To be successful as a Senior Financial Reporting and Control Specialist, you should have:

  • Proven analytical abilities.
  • Experience working in a professional environment, such as a finance department, processing financial transactions, checking reports, and demonstrating considerable attention to detail.
  • Stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in the Financial Services sector is highly preferred.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.

Purpose of the role

To manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting.

Accountabilities

  • Management of the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, and other accounting records in accordance with the relevant accounting standards, rules and regulations.
  • Support in identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, and report on these financial risks to senior colleagues.
  • Development and maintenance of a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure that there is no fraudulent misreporting, and ensure the accuracy of financial data, including regular assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls addressing any weaknesses or gaps.
  • Development and implementation of up-to-date financial policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective financial practices across the organisation.
  • Management of the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software applications, including collaboration with IT colleagues to integrate financial systems with other enterprise systems.
  • Preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory reports to authorities, and provision of support to other departments in their preparation and review of regulatory reports.
  • Coordination with external auditors and regulatory authorities in support of audits and examinations.
