Damen’s Marketing department is seeking a motivated Bachelor/Master student to help further define the profiles of our customers for each of our Product Market Combinations (PMCs), including Tugs, Ferries, Offshore, Defence & Security, and Dredging. Your research as an intern will enable us to better focus on our marketing, communication, and sales activities.

We have segmented our products and marketing efforts into PMCs. Understanding customer interactions and needs allows us to be more customer-centric, leading to higher satisfaction and loyalty. Our goal is to define customer group profiles involved in these PMCs.

The Role

As part of the Damen Marketing department, based in Gorinchem, you will work within the Customer Experience team. This team supports marketing and digital sales processes within Damen’s IT landscape and architecture, focusing on customer-facing applications such as websites, the MyDamen portal, and CRM systems. You will work closely with the Customer Journey Specialist.

Your main responsibility will be conducting comprehensive internal and external research to identify and define customer/client segments for each of our seven PMCs. This is a great opportunity for a student looking to develop a graduation research project focused on understanding our customers more effectively.

By the end of your internship, you will deliver and present a comprehensive overview of the customer segments for each PMC to the Marketing Business Partners and Sales Directors.

Key Accountabilities

Market Research:
  • Conduct market research to gather data on current and potential customers across various PMCs.
  • Gather insights from internal data sources, including sales data, customer feedback, and interviews with internal stakeholders.
  • Travel to international events and/or customer/Damen locations for research purposes.
Customer Segmentation:
  • Identify and define distinct customer segments within each PMC based on demographic, psychographic, geographic, and behavioral factors.
  • Develop detailed customer personas for each identified segment, highlighting their needs, preferences, and purchasing behavior.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to validate and refine segments.

Skills & Experience

At least several skills/experiences from the following list are required to be considered:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Available to start either this semester or the next in 2025, with full-time availability.
  • Interest in market research, customer behavior, and strategic marketing.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills for gathering, interpreting, and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Excellent research skills with experience in conducting surveys, interviews, and using secondary research sources.
  • Interest in data analysis tools and willingness to learn how to extract data from CRM systems or other internal databases.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to present complex data clearly and concisely. Dutch communication skills are a nice-to-have.
