Graduate Naval Ships Naval Architect

Start Date: 8th September 2025

BAE Systems offers a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements. However, on our Graduate programme, you are expected to attend the site 3-4 days per week. This may change in line with business needs, and specific requirements will be outlined by your line manager.

We design and build a full range of naval ships from offshore patrol vessels to giant aircraft carriers, providing customers with the capability to undertake extensive naval operations worldwide. We are the only provider of complex warships and their combat managements to the UK Royal Navy's surface fleet. Do you have what it takes to join our Naval Ships team?

Why BAE Systems?

This is a place where you can make a real difference. You will be part of an inclusive culture that values diversity, rewards integrity and merit, and empowers you to fulfill your potential. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented communities, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

What You Will Be Doing

Naval Architecture at BAE Systems Naval Ships covers a large part of the ship design lifecycle, from concept design through design & build, trials and commissioning, and delivery to the customer. Roles are available in various disciplines including Wholeship Engineering, Structures, Hydrodynamics, Stability, and Seamanship and Outfit, to suit your interest and skillset.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Wholeship Integration, providing engineering support through build.
  • Structural design, including through production.
  • Hull design and performance modelling to meet customer requirements.
  • Stability modelling through maturing design and build.
  • Integration of Seamanship and Outfit equipment into the ship systems.

Skills

You need to have obtained or be predicted to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Ship Science, Marine Technology, Marine Engineering, or Offshore Engineering.

Opportunities for Growth and Development

We encourage employees to explore projects beyond their primary responsibilities, offering them diverse experiences. With a wide range of products and a multinational presence, there are numerous opportunities for employees to engage in various projects and initiatives.

Community Involvement

Aside from professional development, BAE Systems values community engagement. Employees are encouraged to participate in community projects, STEM initiatives, and employee resource groups, offering valuable learning experiences outside of their regular roles.

Retention and Career Development

To retain talented individuals, we offer sponsorship, career development support, and high-potential development programs. These initiatives aim to help employees plan their careers effectively and provide opportunities for accelerated development for those who demonstrate aspiration, ability, and performance.

Benefits

You will receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance, and a company-contributed Share Incentive Plan. You will also have access to additional benefits such as flexible working, an employee assistance programme, Cycle2work, and employee discounts. Additionally, you may be eligible for an annual incentive.

Upon commencement of employment, you will receive a one-off non-consolidated lump sum payment of £2,000 (the "Welcome Payment"). This payment is subject to normal deductions and will be paid with your first salary payment, aiding your transition whether it be relocation costs, securing housing, or ensuring smooth transport needs.

Inclusivity within our Recruitment Process

We strive to make our recruitment processes as inclusive as possible. If you have a disability or health condition (e.g., dyslexia, autism, an anxiety disorder) that may affect your performance in certain assessment types, please discuss potential reasonable adjustments with your recruiter.
