The Flevoland water system is robustly designed and executed on the drawing board. We are rich in water and perform many water-related tasks with our partners. We must continue developing solutions for a sustainable water system. Therefore, we are looking for 8 new colleagues to strengthen our expert team Water.
Nothing beats a glass of fresh water from the tap on a hot day. And the fun we have splashing in the recreational pond around the corner! Water is the basis for everyone's life. However, water is not a given. Climate change, land subsidence, and water quality challenge us to look at water differently. Because Flevoland has a relatively good starting position for clean water, sufficient water availability, and safe dikes, the water system can contribute to realizing other functions; simultaneously, it also sets boundaries for specific developments.
This requires new choices and strategies to ensure that our water system remains intact in the long term and contributes to other regional challenges. Consider the energy transition due to savings and innovation opportunities, and the transition to a circular economy, where agriculture might interact with water differently. Thinking differently, experimenting, and looking ahead - we do that in Flevoland. It's in our DNA.
A major change is the shift from quickly draining excess water to a more sustainable system: retaining water. We aim to make our water system circular. To achieve the goals, we need our area partners, such as the water board, municipalities, farmers, and businesses. Flevoland: tackling together and living together.
We are forming a new expert team Water. The roles and tasks you will take on will be explored together based on your knowledge, talents, and ambitions. In all team roles, it's important to connect new developments with what has already been developed. Creating new collaborations is central to this.
Topics you might work on include water quality (particularly the Water Framework Directive), groundwater protection, drinking water, freshwater availability, land subsidence, or water safety. The primary tasks of the team include developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating water policy. We are also responsible for certain groundwater tasks (including monitoring) commissioned to the environmental service (OFGV) and overseeing the Zuiderzeeland water board. Additionally, we work closely with other governments, interest groups, and Vitens, the drinking water company.
