Join Our Team: Expertiseteam Water

The Flevoland water system is robustly designed and executed on the drawing board. We are rich in water and perform many water-related tasks with our partners. We must continue developing solutions for a sustainable water system. Therefore, we are looking for 8 new colleagues to strengthen our expert team Water.

Our Challenges

Nothing beats a glass of fresh water from the tap on a hot day. And the fun we have splashing in the recreational pond around the corner! Water is the basis for everyone's life. However, water is not a given. Climate change, land subsidence, and water quality challenge us to look at water differently. Because Flevoland has a relatively good starting position for clean water, sufficient water availability, and safe dikes, the water system can contribute to realizing other functions; simultaneously, it also sets boundaries for specific developments.

This requires new choices and strategies to ensure that our water system remains intact in the long term and contributes to other regional challenges. Consider the energy transition due to savings and innovation opportunities, and the transition to a circular economy, where agriculture might interact with water differently. Thinking differently, experimenting, and looking ahead - we do that in Flevoland. It's in our DNA.

A major change is the shift from quickly draining excess water to a more sustainable system: retaining water. We aim to make our water system circular. To achieve the goals, we need our area partners, such as the water board, municipalities, farmers, and businesses. Flevoland: tackling together and living together.

Your Role

We are forming a new expert team Water. The roles and tasks you will take on will be explored together based on your knowledge, talents, and ambitions. In all team roles, it's important to connect new developments with what has already been developed. Creating new collaborations is central to this.

Topics you might work on include water quality (particularly the Water Framework Directive), groundwater protection, drinking water, freshwater availability, land subsidence, or water safety. The primary tasks of the team include developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating water policy. We are also responsible for certain groundwater tasks (including monitoring) commissioned to the environmental service (OFGV) and overseeing the Zuiderzeeland water board. Additionally, we work closely with other governments, interest groups, and Vitens, the drinking water company.

Our Workplace

Province Flevoland is a challenging and inspiring employer. Our work field? Society! Every day, we work on Flevoland in housing, working, recreation, and entrepreneurship. We are a flexible and decisive organization that quickly responds to changes in our environment. We provide employees with the space to grow, be themselves, contribute to Flevoland's development, and feel comfortable. This way, we ensure enthusiastic and involved employees.

The newly formed expert team Soil and Water plays a central role in the strategic water policy of our province. As a water specialist, you commit to fulfilling the statutory tasks and ambitions of the province of Flevoland. You do this in close collaboration with our partners and colleagues from nature, agriculture, economy, and space.

What We Offer

We offer ample space to further develop your talents and invest in your growth. You will receive a lot of trust and responsibility. You can count on:

  • Depending on your education, knowledge, and experience, a salary between € 3.338,- and € 5.133,- gross per month for a 36-hour workweek (scale 9 or 10, provincial collective agreement).
  • An individual Choice Budget of over 22% in addition to your salary, enabling extra money, additional leave hours, tax advantage on some costs for your gym or a bike.
  • An excellent pension plan with APB, discounts on health insurance, and the possibility to insure yourself extra against incapacity for work.
  • For commuting, you will receive an NS Business Card, or if you travel by car, we offer a good mileage allowance;
  • A personal training budget of € 6,000, fully available for personal development, such as water-related studies or any other training you find interesting.
  • A one-year contract with the prospect of permanent employment upon good performance.
  • A company phone and laptop and a beautiful modern workplace located 2 minutes walking distance from Lelystad station.

What You Bring

Firstly, a passion for water. The field holds few secrets for you, and if topics are new, you dive into them with a healthy dose of curiosity. You possess HBO/WO working and thinking level. A completed education in the field of water, soil, and/or environment is preferred, but not required. Additionally, you have an affinity with political-administrative processes.

Furthermore, you possess the following competencies:

  • Collaboration: You contribute to a collective result by establishing contacts with colleagues and our cooperation partners, listening well, asking questions, and being curious.
  • Analytical: You have insight into your own field and the chain within which you work.
  • Action-oriented: Ensuring that objectives are realized, taking actions to achieve tangible results.
