The Role

As a Werkvoorbereider (or Project Engineer) at Damen Civil, you are responsible for the complete preparation of one or more projects and act as the link between the office and on-site executors who build shipyards together with Damen's site management team and local workforce. You support the project manager responsible for the project both at the office and abroad.

Your main task is to independently direct the project technically, focusing on technical feasibility, potential applications, technical drawings, and purchasing equipment and materials. The term “initiator” applies to you. It's crucial to have thoroughly thought through the project as a team, as there is little to no possibility for adjustments during the implementation phase.

As a project engineer/werkvoorbereider, you will be based at our headquarters in Gorinchem with occasional travel to international project locations.

Key Accountabilities

• Inkoop: Selecting and evaluating suppliers in consultation with the project manager and purchasing manager, requesting quotes, aligning purchase contracts, input in our ERP system (IFS), and processing contract and scope changes in IFS.
• Planning: Co-developing, controlling, managing the (contract) schedule, and timely distribution within the project team and other stakeholders.
• PMP and Werkplannen: Developing project-specific quality plans, sub-plans, HSEQ, and preparing and/or assisting with the project management plan together with the project manager and site manager.
• Risicobeheersing: Preparing, drafting, and monitoring the project risk analysis in consultation with the project manager and their team.
• Projectdocumentatie: Creating project documentation, the project and work folder (preferably digital), and keeping it up-to-date. Ensuring proper archiving of all documents (document control).
• Algemene Ondersteuning: Supporting and advising the project manager on methods, schedules, procurement, product choices, transportation, and other project-related aspects. Timely identifying potential problems during the implementation phase and addressing them. Ensuring good collaboration within the team in the Netherlands and the team on-site (mainly the executor).
• Aansturen en Begeleiden: Directing and guiding subcontractors and suppliers in the engineering and work preparation phases.
• Tekeningenbeheer: Controlling and managing technical drawings/calculations.
• Opstellen van de Begroting: Drafting the work budget from the prepared calculation (IDC) in consultation with the project manager.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with:

• A completed civil/architectural education with demonstrable HBO working and thinking level.
• Extensive work experience as a werkvoorbereider or project coordinator, preferably in very diverse projects involving civil, architectural, and installation knowledge.
• Experience and/or willingness to participate in international projects (occasional travel required).
• Team spirit: you are a team player prioritizing the group's interest.
• A helicopter view, considering not just the technical aspects (quality) but also other management aspects (planning, budget, information, and organization) while sharing your skills and practical experience with the team.
• Self-guiding capability, where you seek your own way from the problem to the solution without needing detailed instructions.
