We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Steward to join our Digital Transformation Team on an initial 6 month fixed term contract, with a likely extension and possible opportunity for a future permanent role. Reporting in to the Senior Product Manager you will be responsible for the implementation of the data governance vision and strategy; supporting its development and evolution with the Data Quality Manager and other stakeholders to ensure clean data for business efficiency. You will be the Data leader working with stakeholders to elicit and document definitions, identify and define data quality KPIs and lead effective remediation to ensure business efficiency. You’ll be an evangelist for data governance across the organization, a thought-leader offering subject matter expertise to stakeholders. You will also be measuring, reporting, and improving end users and consumers trust of data and information.

This role will involve a mixture of office and home working, with our head office being based in Birmingham City Centre.

What you’ll be doing in this Data Steward role…

  • Responsibility for the oversight of managing customer data from a variety of sources – becoming a subject matter expert in this data domain
  • Guaranteeing the quality of the data gathered, stored and used by the organisation;
  • Documenting and enforcing rules around data collection, storage and use;
  • Leading on the execution of the policies and standards established by the data governance programme;
  • Responsibility for ensuring access to the right data by the right users at the right time based on whether information is private data, corporate data or sensitive data, etc.;
  • Helping to create and implement processes and procedures for data collection, storage, use and security;
  • Use of subject matter expertise and thought leadership to help stakeholders identify ways to use data to drive M&B objectives and business value.
  • Working closely with the Data Quality Manager, and other stakeholders, to provide input and develop data policies
  • Attending Data Governance forums and provide input and expertise, supporting Data Quality Manager in facilitating the meeting.
  • Promote and be a champion for Data Governance across the organization.

What you’ll need to bring to this Data Steward role…

  • Breadth of practical experience of industry data governance models and data strategy frameworks
  • Strong technical ability to verify engineering work and lean into technical discussion with engineering team
  • Knowledge of SQL/Python/other query languages - preferred
  • Experience of Scrum, Kanban, agile methodologies and working as part of a cross-functional squad – preferred

Qualifications…

  • 3-5 years working experience in data management and data governance covering strategic and operational implementations
  • 3 years experience working in big data environment and developing data practices
  • Experience in defining and implementing data practice KPIs
  • Bachelor or above degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or other related field
