At Damen Workboats our goal is to develop, design, and construct a portfolio of tugs, dredgers or workboats in the most effective and efficient manner, primarily based on series production of (smart-customized) standard designs. Damen Workboats offers a range of innovative, standardized & smart-customized designs, fulfilling current and developing market demands, with well-balanced levels of quality, service, price, and delivery time thereby providing optimal solutions for our clients.

The role

As a R&R Engineer you will be part of an innovative team looking for ways to improve existing designs or create new designs which will help Damen Workboats to reduce costs and lead-time and improve quality. Or it will help our clients with improved performance, innovative use or a more sustainable operation of the vessel. Whether it is an improvement of the lay-out, implementation of new techniques or improved design of the vessel, you can come up with state-of-art ideas.

The main activities of the standardization team are:

  • Supporting the Services department and the Yards in case of problems related to the standard designs;
  • Shipbuilding standardization and development projects, under the ultimate responsibility of the Project Manager Engineering;
  • Creating a well-supported technical design and solution, based on functional and/or stakeholder requirements;
  • Ensuring that the designs and solutions comply to the applicable rules and standards.

Key accountabilities

As a Rules & Regulation (R&R) Engineer you will:

  • Be working closely together in a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Support the organization to check the impact on new R&R;
  • Maintain the contact with Class, related to technical issues;
  • Develop and maintain standardized booklets/templates;
  • Supporting the Class Society and National Authorities approval process;
  • Delivering R&R related content to Design Philosophies, Measurement and Commissioning protocols;
  • Being able to set-up a project plan and perform it from end-to-end;
  • Assessing and analyzing input of stakeholders like, Product Group, Engineering, Services and Suppliers;
  • Document agreements with class;
  • Smoothen the classification process by removing the steps without added value;
  • Be part of the Rules & Regulations committee with Damen;
  • Develop and give Knowledge Sharing Sessions;
  • Performing calculations related to Class Society.

Skills & experience

As a R&R Engineer in the standardization team you need to have the following competences:

  • A quality consciousness and a practical approach;
  • You are an easy-going person, pro-active, creative, showing ownership and result driven;
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably in the field of Naval architecture;
  • Working experience in Engineering in the maritime sector;
  • Affinity with, and above average knowledge of the R&R and being able to interpret it and translate it for our ship-type portfolio and standard solutions;
  • Experience with AutoCAD;
  • An interest in innovation and an open mindset to new technologies;
  • Good communication skills in managing stakeholders and in documenting the standard;
  • English is a must, Dutch is a plus.
