This position sits within the Mechatronics Systems (MechSys) team, part of Dyson’s world class Research, Design and Development (RDD) department. We are a group of multi-disciplinary engineers taking on the delivery of electro-mechanical systems and intelligent features to bring novel, pioneering products to the consumer, first. We are a regional team spread across SEA. We practice a diverse range of software, mechanical and electrical/electronic expertise. We are the team behind some of Dyson's intelligent product features, such as the Auto Mode floor type detection and dust detection features in our cordless vacuums, as well as other cutting-edge features that are currently in confidential development.

About the role

As a member of the MechSys team, you will play a pivotal role in bringing intelligence to life in Dyson products and/or generate bespoke test and analysis solutions to enable the development of other pioneering new technologies. Your key responsibilities will include:

As a member of the MechSys team, you will play a pivotal role in bringing intelligence to life in Dyson products and/or generate bespoke test and analysis solutions to enable the development of other pioneering new technologies. Your key responsibilities will include:

Developing electro-mechanical intelligent product features:

  • Work with a multidisciplinary cross-team to deliver the feature

  • Manage system requirements, specifications and risks, acting as the main point of contact for the feature

  • Manage end-to-end system level development and integration including implementation in product, verification & validation, and manufacturing test plans

  • Specify sensors and/or design signal processing and control algorithms

  • Characterize and tune system behaviour and performance

  • Develop development processes and tools

Creating bespoke test and analysis solutions for internal automated testing and data analysis applications:

  • Collaborate with team members to develop proof of concept solutions, and/or collaborate with vendors to further develop polished solutions

  • Develop full-stack test and/or analysis software applications, design and prototype mechanical components/assemblies and electronic/electrical circuits

About you

  • A Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably in Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics or Mechanical
  • 2+ years of experience in R&D, product development, or test systems development with multi-disciplinary understanding across software, mechanical & electrical/electronic disciplines
  • Experience in sensing, data acquisition, signal processing, control systems or automation applications (proficiency in fluid dynamics, IR sensing, accelerometers/IMU and/or machine learning would be highly advantageous)
  • Skills in developing test/data analysis software using one or more of the following: LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, MATLAB /Simulink,
  • Skills in one or more of the following: Mechanical design/CAD, Electrical/electronic circuit or PCBA design, Machine vision/image processing, Machine learning, IoT
  • A growth mindset – natural curiosity, eagerness to learn, and fearlessness when it comes to exploring the unknown
  • High drive, relishing challenges, and striving for excellence in all endeavours
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English
