About the role
BU Offshore in BA Wind is responsible for developing, constructing and operating offshore wind farms. In the department Offshore Development we develop, mature and secure Vattenfall’s offshore pipeline of wind farm projects.

For the Modelling & Optimisation department, we are now looking for a (Junior) Modelling Engineer who wants to be part of an energetic, committed, divers and dedicated team with a strong drive to help shape a fossil free future. In Modelling & Optimisation we work in an inclusive and innovative culture towards turning our mission into a reality: to create winning offshore wind farm designs at the click of a button.

The Modelling & Optimisation department is the competence centre for technical and financial modelling of offshore wind farms. We are responsible for further expanding our fully in-house developed wind farm design tools, utilising advanced mathematical optimisation techniques and co-simulation of multiparameter physical models. These models are used to assess and optimise the design of our future offshore wind farms, mastering the full complexity of each component while maintaining a holistic view of the full system.

Responsibilities & Tasks
The following tasks are part of the responsibilities of a (Junior) Modelling Engineer:

  • Development of our industry-leading design tools and techno economical modelling of the innovative technologies we use to build the future energy system
  • Professionalizing the software design for quality assurance, efficiency and user experience.
  • Creating more efficient and automated data interfaces to other departments.
  • Work closely with engineering, system design, and technical solution development teams to model the solution space for future offshore energy systems.
  • You will work closely together with modelling experts in an agile environment.
  • Your work will drive the direction of our energy system designs and guide our business decisions, as well as making it possible to evaluate new technologies on product, system and park level.

Your profile – key criteria to be successful in this role:

  • MSc degree (or equal) in Computer Science.
  • Familiarity with or the ability to quickly learn popular programming languages in engineering, such as Python, MATLAB, C++, and the principle of object-oriented programming.
  • Both oral and written fluency in English is a requirement.
  • As a person you show initiative, can cope with uncertainty, and can both challenge and support the people around you.
  • You have a can-do mentality and can combine this with an analytical and structured approach while working on many things at the same time. You quickly pick up new skills and enjoy constant learning and improvement.
  • You have an innovative mind-set and can see yourself working in a department where we value entrepreneurship, a pragmatic approach and helpfulness in our everyday work. One of your strengths is to bridge different points of view and find a common ground without compromising the right solution.
  • You have a positive mindset and think in solutions rather than in problems. Furthermore, you thrive in complex, international/intercultural and interdisciplinary environments

  • You possess expertise in software development, architecture, and design patterns, showcasing proficiency in modern methodologies, frameworks, and technologies.
  • You can keep critical details and their impacts on a sub-system in check while also being able to take the big view on how the sub-system integrates and interacts with a much bigger system.
  • You have gained experience with the complex design of a windfarms and energy systems.
  • You already have experience with DevOps best practices, and agile project management methods (Scrum).
  • Previous experience in general: We will consider both junior candidates (0-3 years of experience) and more experienced candidates for the role. We will scope the daily activities based on the selected candidate’s skills and experiences.

Location
The role will be based in either our office in Amsterdam (NL) or Kolding (DK). Regular travel to other Vattenfall offices will be required.
