Our client mainly manufactures and develops marine propellers and propeller control systems. It has been part of a large German multinational since about 2008 but has never lost the feel of a family business. It is a proud company with loyal employees where “top of the bill” marine propulsion systems have been made for 50 years. It employs about 70 employees and is located near Capelle aan den IJssel.

Function

You will report to the Manager of Supply Chain. The team consists of one other buyer, an expediter and an assistant buyer. You will be responsible for a broad spectrum of activities in the procurement process, seeking and selecting new suppliers, making make or buy analyses, sending RFXs, negotiating and contracting, vendor management, and supply market analysis. You will also have an active role in defining the strategic procurement policy, in close consultation with the Manager Supply Chain. The categories you will deal with are diverse, think: steel, semi-finished products, consumables, electrical modules, mechanical parts, services. The total spend of the organization is approx. €10 mio.

In this organization, internal stakeholder management is important (which here is simply called “know your colleague”). As part of this, you have a lot of contact with engineering, logistics and sales.

Each project is engineered to order, making understanding of engineering very important. It is essential that you can read technical drawings and understand what the bill of material includes in order to work with your suppliers and the engineers to bring projects to success.

If you want to know exactly how the thrusters are put together, you walk right down onto the production floor or wander into the engineers’ office and otherwise ask your fellow buyer. Who has so much content knowledge that you are quickly “up to speed” in this wonderful organization.

Your profile

• HBO work/thought level
• Be able to read technical drawings
• Strong perseverance
• Strong communicator
• Approx. 3 years procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.

Offer

• Salary up to €70,000 depending on knowledge and experience
• 40 vacation days
• Good pension (PME)
• Ability to work from home for 1 day
