The electrical power system is in the middle of a transition that is significantly increasing the complexity of system operations. This change is driven by political, regulatory, environmental and technological background. Therefore, System Operations needs to be prepared for the challenges ahead by influencing future regulation and relevant stakeholders, by contributing to national & international activities, identifying future needs for innovations, developing ingenious concepts and knowledge to ensure TenneT is prepared to also operate the future power system with the same level of reliability and security, as we have today!

In the department of System Operation development you contribute directly to these challenges by identifying the future needs and taking initiative for necessary developments as well as contributing to the challenges of today. You promote innovation and propose improvements for system operations in close collaboration with many internal and external as well as national and international stakeholders.

  • You will develop mid- and long-term concepts and prototypes of tools for congestion management in a RES dominated system
  • By this you need to consider system balancing requirements, system dynamic aspects and new European grid security processes
  • Integration of new flexibility and the usage for congestion management will be part of your tasks
  • You will closely cooperate with several departments on various stability initiatives (System Operations, Customer and Markets, Energy System Planning, Control Room of the Future…)
  • You connect with the relevant process owners internal and external to system operations to provide a full picture about the challenges ahead for a stable future system operation.
  • You will be given an opportunity to participate in national and international working groups to bring these important aspects of future system operation forward and to propose relevant and innovative solutions through collaboration with relevant technical partners (market parties, developers, equipment manufacturers and other TSOs)
  • You will be involved in future developments on congestion management within TenneT

Your profile and background

  • Master or PhD with technical background
  • Experience in the topic congestion management is highly recommended
  • Experience in working for a grid operator in the field of system operations or development would be highly welcomed
  • You are a responsible and proactive individual with good working ethics. Furthermore, you are a curious person who likes to work on technically complex topics and be intellectually challenged
  • A positive attitude towards working in an international team is of high importance; connection is key for you to succeed
  • You have the ambition to learn and develop yourself and drive the energy transition together with your colleagues
  • Very good verbal/writing skills in English are mandatory. Knowledge of Dutch can be beneficial
