About the Improvements Team

The Improvements team is part of our Operations department. This department is responsible for making sure our global operation runs safely and efficiently. The Improvements team works on the continuous improvement and operational excellence of the current Ampelmann fleet and worldwide operation. This is done by creating add-ons, improving designs, standards, and procedures & services to maintain the highest level of safety and quality. Within the team, you will work together with a diverse group of colleagues where multiple areas of expertise are represented: from Design Engineering and Structural Engineering to Technical Document Writing. You will report to the Team Lead Improvements.

Your role as Drafts(wo)man

In this role, you will be responsible for correctly implementing the improvements or changes in the design drawings. Besides that, your skills and design experience will provide Ampelmann with the best solutions for fabrication issues or improvements in the design while dealing with the restrictions from the existing product. No project will be similar to one another, giving you plenty of learning room. During the product life cycle you will use a Product Data Management (PDM) system to store, change and revise the 3D models and 2D drawings. As a drafts(wo)man, you will liaise between our experienced engineers and our fabricators, playing an integral role in the production process. This hands-on involvement allows you to be at the driver’s seat: starting from a draft, you will turn it into your design and have the chance to see the life of your work come in practice. You will be a key player in maintaining and improving the Ampelmann drawing standards.

Regular activities

  • Make 2D production drawings for 3D models made by our design engineers
  • Implement changes in design drawings and generate fabrication drawings (mostly 2D)
  • Release fabrication and as built drawings for the improvements defined by our design engineers
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through adjusting existing designs (3D) by making them up to AS BUILT or providing solutions to problems during initial production
  • Come up with creative (design) solutions to solve fabrication issues, chip in with your knowledge to drive improvements in the design
  • Liaise with our fabricators the production of your solutions

We ask

  • 2+ years of working experience as a technical drafts(wo)man
  • Experience with design management system (PDM) and SolidWorks is preferred
  • Vocational degree (MBO) in mechanical engineering, technical drawing, manufacturing preparation or similar
  • Experience in steel, construction or design industry
  • Great communication skills in English (required), Dutch (preferred)
