Production Engineering Manager

Leading engineering teams within ABB's Measurement & Analytics BU, the Engineering Manager. drive teams’ performance to ensure that safety, integrity, financial and contractual requirements are met. Owns, initiates and drives continuous improvement activities and practice across teams and the wider Stonehouse site.

Your responsibilities

• Reinforces and maintains a culture of health & safety in all aspects of the production environment.
• Leads an engineering team which is responsible for a variety of products and ensures delivery of a portfolio of projects on time in full.
• Works to the new NPI process, taking responsibility for developing new manufacturing processes.
• Provides support to production in achieving volume, quality and delivery targets, also giving technical support to the PMUs as required.
• Identifies and recommends improvement opportunities and implements improvement projects, ensuring adherence to timeframe, quality and cost requirements.
• Evaluates new process technologies to improve productivity, quality and cost reduction, defining and leading testing activities, approval criteria and external provider choices.
• Works with other factories to initiates and drive continuous improvement activities.
• Collaborates with the Supply Chain function to ensure that technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed on with potential suppliers.
• Commitment to professional engineering values for self, either as an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
• Facilitates communities of practice with industrial engineering teams from other factories
• Ensures (with HR support) that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed.
• Participates in defining the annual budget for area of responsibility and is accountable for managing performance against agreed financial targets and constraints.

Your background

• 5+ years of working experience working in a senior management position within a manufacturing environment, or other relevant industry.
• Experience of managing a department across a multi-site organization.

• In-depth knowledge/understanding of engineering practices and processes.

• Outstanding leadership and motivation skills to guide the engineering team to achieve high performance.
• A proven background in engineering with an understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering.
• Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative, and practical solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style to suit different audiences.
• Excellent consultancy, communication, delegation, and relationship management skills.
• Project management skills.
• Engineering degree (mechanical/electrical) or equivalent.
