What you do as a Medior Electrical Engineer/Medior Energy Consultant

As a Medior Electrical Engingeer/Medior Energy Consultant, you will be based in the Netherlands and will involve worldwide travel as well. You will work as an expert in specialized projects that have electrical and/or energy components in their scope. The range of work can vary from high-level conceptual desktop studies up to on-site work on testing and commissioning of newly built or renovated installations. As a specialist, you will be a member of the multidisciplinary project team. On other projects you will also act as consultant, directly cooperating with the client. You will manage and carry responsibility for:

  • conceptual and detailed design of electrical (power) systems for ports/terminals, shore power systems, windfarms, and solar systems
  • consultancy on the application of electrification, clean energy carriers such as hydrogen, energy efficiency improvement, and local renewable power generation
  • design reviews of energy related systems designed by others
  • cost estimates and economic evaluations (CAPEX and OPEX) of technical alternatives
  • guidance of detailed electrical design works by local teams of Royal HaskoningDHV or external local consultants

Our Advisory Group Climate Resilience & Maritime NL (200 professionals) (part of BL W&M) is working closely together in integrated projects in the field of ports, waterways, rivers and coasts. We have a very strong position in the Netherlands and abroad, working jointly with our colleagues in our overseas offices across the globe. As part of this advisory group, our dedicated Smart and Green Ports team is supporting clients to tackle some of the most important challenges of our time from Net Zero and climate change resilience to smart asset management and the energy transition of ports.

What you bring

We are looking for a professional electrical engineer with knowledge and experience in the field of electrical power systems. You contribute to the further expansion and strengthening of our team by deploying your knowledge, your professional network, and your passion to provide our clients with the best solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are important. You are a team player while also able to work independently and with limited supervision. We expect candidates to comply with the following minimum qualifications:

  • education: Bachelors (BSc) or Master (MSc) in Electrical Engineering
  • around 5 years or more working experience, preferably working for a consulting organisation, client, or contractor
  • sound electrical engineering knowledge and experience in MV and HV (11 kV up to 400 kV)
  • knowledge of the full spectrum of Indoor and Outdoor Substation Designs
  • an intimate knowledge of local and international standards and codes
  • be able to develop engineering documentation from first principles
  • the ability to liaise with relevant stakeholders at all levels

In addition, the following skills and attributes are considered advantageous in securing this position:

  • knowledge of shore power systems and/or electrical installations on-board of ships
  • experience with operations and/or design of electrically powered container handling equipment and the required infrastructure
  • knowledge of clean energy carriers such as hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol and the related technologies to produce and apply them in a renewable energy system
  • conversant with PVsyst, Digsilent, ETAP (or other equivalent package) electrical power systems modelling and analysis software
  • previous track record in successfully generating new business within the renewable sector
