As Retail Technology IT Architect, you are responsible for shaping and evolving the technology architecture that supports our stores. You ensure that our retail technology landscape is reliable, scalable, secure and future-proof, while remaining closely aligned with the needs of our stores and the wider Retail Technology strategy.

In this role, you combine strong technical knowledge with a clear understanding of retail operations. You act as the architectural owner of the end-to-end store technology landscape and ensure that technology choices and solutions are coherent, supportable and aligned with our long-term direction. You will work across Retail, Store IT, Enterprise IT, suppliers and project teams to define architecture principles, drive standardization and enable continuous improvement across the store environment.

You understand how technology is used in practice and know how to translate business and operational needs into practical architectural solutions. Whether it concerns POS devices, mobile technology, payment solutions, networking, digital signage or store infrastructure, you ensure that all components fit together as part of a scalable and well-governed technology landscape.

You will also play a key role in technology lifecycle management and problem management, identifying recurring issues, assessing structural improvements and ensuring that lessons from operations are reflected in our architecture and standards. With your analytical mindset and hands-on approach, you help reduce complexity, improve the store experience and enable more reliable and efficient retail operations.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as the architectural owner of the end-to-end Retail Technology landscape.
  • Define and maintain architecture principles, standards and guidelines for store technology.
  • Manage the lifecycle and roadmap of store technology, ensuring it remains scalable, supportable and fit for purpose.
  • Evaluate new technologies and innovations and assess their impact on store operations.
  • Support architecture decisions and ensure proposed changes align with the wider technology landscape.
  • Provide architectural direction for store technology assets, including POS devices, iPads, barcode scanners, payment terminals, Meraki equipment, CCTV, digital signage and meeting room equipment.
  • Ensure partners and suppliers understand and adhere to relevant technology standards.
  • Drive simplification, standardization and rationalization across the store environment.
  • Work with suppliers to improve the performance, reliability and supportability of technology solutions.
  • Ensure new technology is properly designed, tested and validated before deployment.
  • Establish and maintain a representative store lab for testing, validation and pilots.
  • Analyze recurring incidents and translate findings into structural technology improvements.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and problem management sessions with IT teams and external partners.
  • Translate store pain points into long-term architectural improvements and measurable service enhancements.
  • Act as the architectural voice of the stores within IT.
  • Contribute to the long-term Retail Technology strategy and the transition towards proactive and predictive technology management.

Bring all of you

For this role, we are looking for an experienced IT professional with a strong understanding of IT architecture and retail technology and a passion for improving the way technology supports store operations. You know how to combine technical depth with business understanding and are able to work across teams and stakeholders to design practical, scalable solutions in a complex retail environment.

You are curious, analytical and service-minded. You do not just look at individual technology components — you understand how they fit together and how architectural choices impact the wider retail environment. You are comfortable switching between technical discussions with engineers and suppliers and business conversations with retail stakeholders. You know how to bring structure, challenge where needed and create alignment around technology standards and long-term direction.

Most of all, you bring the energy, ownership and continuous improvement mindset needed to make store technology simpler, more reliable and more effective for the business.

To be successful in this role, you:

  • Bring a minimum of 5 years of relevant IT experience, preferably including experience in an architecture role.
  • Have strong knowledge of retail technology environments and store operations.
  • Have experience designing and governing technology architectures across hardware, software and infrastructure.
  • Have experience with technology lifecycle management, standardization and rationalization.
  • Understand how to design and manage business-critical store technology across its full lifecycle.
  • Have knowledge of Azure Active Directory / Entra ID.
  • Bring strong networking fundamentals.
  • Have experience supporting Microsoft Teams Meeting Rooms.
  • Have strong knowledge of the Apple ecosystem and device management.
  • Have experience with Jamf; Jamf 200 certification is a plus.
  • Have knowledge of ServiceNow, Jira and Confluence.
  • Are experienced in working with outsourced service providers and external suppliers.
  • Have a good understanding of ITIL processes, especially Incident, Problem and Change Management.
  • Are comfortable facilitating workshops, driving architectural improvements and challenging suppliers where needed.

What success looks like

After 12 months:

  • The Retail Technology architecture, standards and principles are clearly defined and understood across relevant teams.
  • Store technology standards are documented, scalable and future-proof.
  • The Top 20 recurring retail technology issues are clearly identified and actively addressed through structural improvements.
  • A fully operational store lab is available for architecture validation, testing and pilot activities.
  • Retail stakeholders see you as a trusted technology partner for stores.
  • Technology decisions are increasingly standardized, reducing complexity and operational dependencies.
  • Technology is no longer a blocker, but an enabler for store operations.
