Join Willem de Kooning Academy and support the next generation of graphic designers as they shape their professional identity. In this role, you will mentor advanced students in developing independent projects, navigating the intersection of analogue and digital media, and using design as a tool for critical inquiry and societal engagement.

What are you going to do?

As a teacher for the 3rd year and graduates you guide students to define their own position in the field of graphic design. On the one hand you help them to make strategic and critical use of media in their projects crossing analogue and digital media. On the other you help them formulate their own projects, and guide them through a (making) research process.

You will guide our students during their learning process and ensure that the lessons align in terms of content and didactics with, and contribute to, the continuous learning pathway and are embedded within the program.

In addition, you will work on:

  • Contributing to the activities connected to Admissions
  • Organization of the Open Day

Join us in teaching the new generation graphic design students to translate their ideas into visual, engaging and societal relevant designs.

Willem de Kooning Academie

The Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA) is a leading international academy for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in media, art, design, leisure and arts education.

WdKA pays attention to ecology in the broadest sense: social, cultural, technological and economical. Students are being prepared to find their way as creative professionals within the arts and the cultural field and to contribute to social challenges such as climate change, migration and inequality.

Within WdKA we work from a culture in which ingenuity is central and where learning takes place through making. We encourage an environment in which there is room for experimentation and new ideas. We work from mutual trust and confidence in one another’s expertise and actively seek collaboration with respect for diverse perspectives.

Team

Within the Graphic Design department you collaborate with a dedicated team of approximately 15 teachers with a diverse background and expertise. Within the specific projects you collaborate closely with a smaller team of 3 to 4 experienced colleagues.

Are we looking for you?

You are a designer with educational experience who is knowledgeable about the developments within the graphic design field and have an open attitude to what is considered graphic design. You approach the use of technology and media critically and know how to connect to societal topics through design. Experience in the field of (experimental) publishing is a plus.

As a Lecturer in Graphic Design, you have strong communication skills, enabling you to share your knowledge and expertise with enthusiasm with our students. You look at students with an open mind and recognize their individual talent and learning ability. You are someone who works resourcefully and gains energy from finding creative solutions. In doing so, you radiate confidence, thereby contributing to a safe and open atmosphere. You connect with students, colleagues and external partners and bring together different perspectives.

At the same time, you are reliable and feel responsible for both your work and the people around you.

You also have:

  • Demonstrable didactic and pedagogical skills, such as inclusive communication and creating a healthy and safe learning environment;
  • A good command of Dutch (at a minimum C1 level) and English, both spoken and written;
  • Preferably a BKE certificate.
  • Master Degree in a relevant field
