At Rabobank Online, the team is reinventing the way customers interact with their bank. Around 5 million customers in the Netherlands use Rabobank’s mobile banking services, many more visit the website, and a large number of business customers rely on Rabo Business Banking daily. The channels support creating a personalised environment for customers across multiple devices in the Netherlands and internationally.

You & your role

We are looking for a senior developer who has focused mostly on new technologies in recent years. We try to keep up with technology and actively update the languages, frameworks, and libraries we use. Given that we build solutions for other developers, we often have discussions on what and how we build software. We love sharing knowledge and learning new things, and many of us often give trainings or talks. We try out the latest and greatest on a regular basis, get time to experiment, and push the boundaries of how we do things. Innovation is part of who we are.

We work together on many things, including pairing and mobbing. Our work contains less development work than the average job. We spend more time on brainstorm discussions, problem solving, migrations, architecture, and figuring out how we can achieve progress in an efficient manner. We primarily work from home and visit the Rabobank office in Utrecht about once a week.

Together we achieve more than alone

Our team is part of Digital Platform, which provides services, libraries, and frameworks to over 200 development teams so that they can build better applications for our customers.

Our team, called Skunk Works, is a team of 6 DevOps Engineers and provides numerous backend services with functionalities like accessing customer data, encryption, frontend logging, incident communication management, and more. All our services are crucial for the mobile apps and website to work.

Each service is built on a modern technology stack, fully redundant, highly performant, and architected for resilience, handling between 500 and 5,000 requests per second.

Our tech-stack:

  • Java/Kotlin build with Maven
  • Spring Boot
  • Cloud Foundry running on Azure and AWS
  • Azure DevOps
  • Splunk (logging), SignalFX (metrics) and PagerDuty (alerting)

You & your talent

The Must-Haves:

  • 3+ years experience building applications with common web technologies such as Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot
  • Proven experience in 3 or more complex projects
  • Experience with automation: build pipelines, testing, deployments, monitoring
  • Experience with microservices
  • Experience with Azure DevOps
  • Being able to support several teams and helping them make choices
  • Good communication skills and expectation management: there are many stakeholders
  • High in energy, shows initiative and has a lot of creativity
  • Is a frontrunner: likes to experiment with new technology to help others accelerate

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with Cloud Foundry
  • Experience with frontend technologies such as Typescript and Angular
  • Experience with common design patterns

The Usuals:

  • Git, Confluence, Scrum
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Enthusiastic about pair & mob programming
  • Must be able to brainstorm and communicate ideas with your teams as well as other stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and implement in short time
  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team

Additional requirements:

  • BA or BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree
  • Fluent English is a must
