Business Controller (Asset Management)

The position

The Asset Management division is an exciting part of the group and is strongly scaling up its activities, moving from a corporate start-up to a mature activity within the infrastructure value chain. This also calls for mature processes and insights to support the business, and this is where the role of a hands-on business controller comes in. The primary purpose of the role is to enhance, streamline and document these processes within asset management projects and offer key insights to management on the asset management portfolio as a whole. The role will be active as business controller on the portfolio level and as project controller on critical projects within the portfolio. The position is a 9-12 months assignment to lay the foundation for well documented and effective processes within Asset Management projects.

Your impact

You provide support to and advise the project managers on all financial aspects of actual developments and budgets, including opportunities and risks. This includes:

  • Responsible for financial project control of key Asset Management projects, including cost allocation, quarterly reporting, preparation of annual financial statements, and tax filings;
  • Preparation of quarterly reporting for the Asset Management division;
  • Review, enhance, document and implement business processes in key projects and within the Asset Management division (Van Oord Way of Working);
  • Plan and coordinate annual financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for the assigned projects and portfolio of asset management;
  • Act as a sparring partner and provide support and guidance to the project managers and the director of asset management;
  • Inform and advise stakeholders on the project’s financial performance and potential risks and opportunities.

Your workplace: This position is part of the Area Netherlands Finance team. Together they service and support their internal clients within Van Oord including the subsidiaries within the area of Netherlands.

About you

You are a self-starter with strong initiative and able to identify opportunities to drive value. Keywords for your personality are pro-active, agile, fast learning and resilient. You have strong communicative skills and you are an effective team player, which combined give you the capability to be successful within Van Oord. Furthermore you have:

  • A Bachelor degree in Business Administration or Economics and a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in a complex project business environment;
  • Knowledge of and affinity with contractual finance documentation;
  • Excellent command of the Dutch and English language, spoken and written;
  • Interest in IT systems (ERP / consolidation tool / dashboarding);
  • Pragmatic, "can do and will do" approach and an urge to improve.
