Do you want to work at the intersection of ESG and M&A transactions? In this role, you will deliver ESG due diligence for acquisitions in the Dutch and international market, working closely with technical specialists to provide integrated insights that support investment decisions across sectors.

What will you do

You will support and lead due diligence assignments primarily in the context of M&A transactions. You will work on transactions in the Dutch market as well as internationally, across a wide range of sectors, helping clients identify and assess ESG risks relevant to investment and acquisition decisions.

You will:

  • Deliver the ESG due diligence scope and, depending on the complexity of the transaction, lead the overall due diligence process, coordinating ESG and technical inputs together with specialist colleagues
  • Assess ESG risks and opportunities and translate findings into clear, transaction-relevant insights
  • Interact directly with clients and internal teams to ensure high-quality, well-structured deliverables within tight deal timelines
  • As appropriate, contribute to marketing and business development activities, supporting the design and execution of sales strategies and engaging with clients as part of building and maintaining a project pipeline

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

You will be part of the ESG Team within the Advisory Group Energy & Process in the Netherlands. This group consists of around 90 consultants who combine technical, environmental, and strategic expertise to support clients in their transition towards a low-carbon economy. Our services span transactions advisory, master planning, project definition, and conceptual design, with a focus on energy systems, logistics, and supply chains.

The ESG Team itself comprises 11 environmental consultants with a strong international focus and a strong understanding and practical experience of applying internationally recognized environmental and social (E&S) performance standards to assess projects and investments, primarily in the energy and industry sectors, and to some extent in the maritime and aviation sectors.

You will also be part of a global Due Diligence Competence centre, comprising approximately 20 colleagues based in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, with a proven track record in delivering high-quality transactional services to clients worldwide. The Competence Centre brings together ESG specialists with consultants who have deep technical expertise across energy, industry, maritime, aviation, real estate, and data centres, and includes dedicated commercial due diligence expertise for the maritime sector. We support both private and public sector clients across the full transaction lifecycle—from feasibility studies and deal origination through technical and ESG due diligence to post-deal audits—serving buyers, sellers, lenders, and investors alike.

What you bring

You are an experienced consultant with a strong understanding of transactions, who can assess how international ESG standards and technical considerations influence deal risk and value. You are comfortable working in fast-paced, deal-driven environments, advising senior stakeholders, and taking responsibility for both project delivery and client relationships.

You bring:

  • A master’s degree in environmental or technical discipline (e.g. Environmental Sciences, Applied Earth Sciences, Sustainable Energy); a background in finance, economics or business management is a strong plus
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience, in ESG (and technical) due diligence within M&A and/or project finance
  • Strong oversight of international ESG standards and the ability to assess their implications for company risks, transaction structuring and deal outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead due diligence teams and deliver under tight timelines
  • Clear and effective communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to work in an international and multicultural context, combining flexibility, pragmatism and willingness to travel as required
  • Fluency in English and Dutch; additional languages are an advantage

An outward-looking mindset, including experience in networking, client development or contributing to business growth, is considered a strong asset.

What we offer you

We offer a stimulating and supportive working environment within our advisory group, characterised by a high level of expertise, youthful enthusiasm, and a strong focus on collaboration and mutual respect.
