Tony’s Chocolonely is committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. Tony’s Open Chain works with mission allies such as Albert Heijn, Ben & Jerry's, Jokolade, and Aldi to build a fairer, more transparent supply chain for chocolate.
We are looking for an Environment & Forest Conservation Intern to join the team in Amsterdam.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- Forestry conservation and restoration: gain hands-on experience in conservation, restoration, and landscape-level thinking, and see how forests and agriculture interact in real supply chains.
- Deforestation and remediation: learn about deforestation risk assessments and help roll out remediation plans that align with emerging industry and regulatory standards.
- Environmental science in action: apply your studies, from forestry ecology to sustainability, directly to challenges in cocoa-growing regions, including reducing chemical use and promoting plant and animal biodiversity.
- Sustainability reporting, impact, data and audit readiness: develop skills in sustainability reporting, data validation, impact communication, and audit preparation. You’ll help shape Tony’s Open Chain’s annual impact reporting.
Here’s what you’ll do:
In the Climate & Environment team (5SP)
- Support deforestation remediation roll out, helping research, develop, and test approaches for remediation using best practices and benchmarks from the sector.
- Contribute to forest conservation initiatives by working on restoration and conservation actions, mapping potential partners or service providers, and supporting project design.
- Integrate environmental preservation into cocoa farming by supporting execution and monitoring of sustainable cocoa farming practices through the cooperative-centric model via research, data analysis, and project management.
- Support internal and external communications by helping build presentations, policies, publications, and materials on forestry, deforestation, and sustainable cocoa production.
In the External Affairs & Reporting team
Support the full process of developing the 2025/26 Tony’s Open Chain Impact Report: gather inputs, draft and edit content, coordinate stakeholder reviews, collaborate on visuals, support KPI data collection and validation, update audit documentation, and contribute to analytical publications such as:
- the Living Income Analysis
- the Productivity Programme Year 1 Reflection Paper
- Integrated & Profit & Loss Analysis (format TBD)
