Tony’s Chocolonely is committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. Tony’s Open Chain works with mission allies such as Albert Heijn, Ben & Jerry's, Jokolade, and Aldi to build a fairer, more transparent supply chain for chocolate.

We are looking for an Environment & Forest Conservation Intern to join the team in Amsterdam.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Forestry conservation and restoration: gain hands-on experience in conservation, restoration, and landscape-level thinking, and see how forests and agriculture interact in real supply chains.
  • Deforestation and remediation: learn about deforestation risk assessments and help roll out remediation plans that align with emerging industry and regulatory standards.
  • Environmental science in action: apply your studies, from forestry ecology to sustainability, directly to challenges in cocoa-growing regions, including reducing chemical use and promoting plant and animal biodiversity.
  • Sustainability reporting, impact, data and audit readiness: develop skills in sustainability reporting, data validation, impact communication, and audit preparation. You’ll help shape Tony’s Open Chain’s annual impact reporting.

Here’s what you’ll do:

In the Climate & Environment team (5SP)

  • Support deforestation remediation roll out, helping research, develop, and test approaches for remediation using best practices and benchmarks from the sector.
  • Contribute to forest conservation initiatives by working on restoration and conservation actions, mapping potential partners or service providers, and supporting project design.
  • Integrate environmental preservation into cocoa farming by supporting execution and monitoring of sustainable cocoa farming practices through the cooperative-centric model via research, data analysis, and project management.
  • Support internal and external communications by helping build presentations, policies, publications, and materials on forestry, deforestation, and sustainable cocoa production.

In the External Affairs & Reporting team

Support the full process of developing the 2025/26 Tony’s Open Chain Impact Report: gather inputs, draft and edit content, coordinate stakeholder reviews, collaborate on visuals, support KPI data collection and validation, update audit documentation, and contribute to analytical publications such as:

  • the Living Income Analysis
  • the Productivity Programme Year 1 Reflection Paper
  • Integrated & Profit & Loss Analysis (format TBD)

Job requirements

  • You’re studying for an HBO/university degree and are looking to gain practical experience in a real work environment with a sustainability focus.
  • Raise the bar. Challenge yourself and team Tony’s to increase ambition and accomplish the mission. Make mistakes along the way and learn from them.
  • Believe wholeheartedly in Tony’s mission. You live the core values: outspoken, In it together, Makes your smile, Entrepreneurial, and Raise the bar.
  • You’re studying Environmental Science, Forestry, Sustainability, Conservation, or a related field at Bachelor or Master level.
  • You’ll be living in the Netherlands and enrolled in a school/study programme for the duration of the internship.

Here are the hard facts:

  • Starting on September 1st, you'll be part of the team for 6 months.
  • The team works more in person than apart, with flexibility and an average of 3 days a week in the Amsterdam office.

Here's what you can expect from us:

  • You'll be part of an enthusiastic team of driven colleagues who share your commitment. It’s a fast-growing international company that believes in doing things differently.
  • As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to directly contribute to the success of Tony's Chocolonely and make a real impact.
  • The Amsterdam Houthavens office offers a fresh lunch, plenty of snacks, and chocolate to take home.

Tony’s Chocolonely wants to make all chocolate 100% slave free. Not just our chocolate, but all chocolate worldwide. Not exactly the average company, right? Instead a chocolate company whose primary goal is to resolve a social issue in the world.
