Do you want to work together with inspired colleagues to create a world in which nature and people thrive? And help build a ‘nature positive’ impact in biodiverse priority landscapes around the world by mobilising people to act? That is what you will do when you work at WWF Netherlands (WWF-NL). WWF-NL is a professional and dynamic organization with an informal working culture based in Zeist, the Netherlands. The organisation consists of four departments: Conservation, Engagement, Organization & Talent Development and Finance & Operations.

In this light WWF-NL is looking for a Junior Project Manager (8 uur per week).

This role is part of WWF-NL’s Netherlands team and focuses on providing day-to-day coordination for a project aimed at improving the climate resilience of the Limburg region and surrounding provinces in Belgium and Germany.

The SPONGE project is a partnership between nine organisations from Belgium and the Netherlands. Its goal is to enhance climate resilience and restore the natural sponge function of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion landscape by promoting upstream-downstream solidarity and cross-border cooperation.

The project will implement Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and Naturally Designed Technical Solutions (NDTS) and collaborate with public institutions to develop an integrated governance approach that encourages cooperation and reduces conflict. WWF-NL serves as the project lead and manages a small-grants (voucher) system for organisations in the Euroregion that wish to implement NBS.

Key responsibilities

The Junior Project Manager will work closely with the SPONGE Project Lead and will be responsible for:

  • Providing administrative and logistical support to the project.
  • Assisting with the coordination of project activities, meetings, and events.
  • Supporting communication with project partners and stakeholders in the three countries involved.
  • Assisting with budget management.
  • Monitoring project progress and supporting the preparation of donor reports and documentation.
  • Helping ensure compliance with Interreg and EU funding regulations.
  • Maintaining and updating project databases and document repositories.
  • Contributing to the dissemination of project results through newsletters, social media, and events.

Job requirements

Essential

  • Experience in project support or coordination, preferably in an EU-funded or cross-border context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Strong interest in and commitment to nature protection.
  • Strong organisational, financial, and administrative skills.
  • Understanding of donor-funded programmes and their requirements.

Desirable

  • Fluency in French.
  • Familiarity with Interreg or other EU funding programmes.
  • Knowledge of nature-based solutions or climate adaptation projects.
  • Willingness to travel within the programme area.
  • Experience working with public authorities or NGOs in the Netherlands, Belgium, or Germany.

What do we offer?

  • A sustainable office surrounded by nature;
  • Fun colleagues and the chance to build up an international network;
  • Vegetarian lunches in our canteen and free after work drinks every other Thursday;
  • An employment contract of 8 hours for the duration of two years;
  • Salaries that are in line with the standard in the Dutch not-for-profit sector (Please note: this position does not meet the salary threshold required for the Highly Skilled Migrant (HSM) permit and is therefore not eligible for sponsorship under the IND HSM program);
  • A personal budget that is made up of 8% holiday allowance and 2,08% flexible budget;
  • 6 weeks of holiday per year (based on a 40-hour contract);
  • An NS Business Card for 2nd class travel to and from work and an allowance of €0,23 per kilometer cycled between home and the office;
  • Hybrid working, so staff have the flexibility to alternate working from home and from the office; for every working from home day, staff can request a reimbursement of €2,45.

To work for WWF-NL, you need a valid work permit.
