Lead the creation of the next generation of AI-driven imaging solutions that help clinicians see more, decide faster, and improve patient outcomes. As Group Leader R&D for AzurionEye, you will build and guide a new multidisciplinary software and AI team delivering innovative diagnostic capabilities on the Azurion platform.

Your role:

  • Build and scale the Azurion Eye Software & AI R&D team, recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring a high-performing group of 15–20 engineers within the first two years.
  • Drive the execution of the Azurion Eye technical roadmap, delivering innovative products on schedule while meeting Philips’ high standards for quality, reliability, and patient safety.
  • Provide technical leadership across the software stack, including AI/ML, front-end and back-end development, and embedded/clinical software, guiding architectural and engineering decisions.
  • Establish and mature modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, secure development, and reproducible ML pipelines and MLOps.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and patient safety by design, embedding medical device software lifecycle practices, risk management, and verification and validation processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware engineering, system integration, clinical R&D, product management, quality, and regulatory teams to translate customer and clinical needs into robust product solutions.
  • Foster a high-performance and inclusive engineering culture, coaching and developing team members while representing the team in leadership forums and with external partners when needed.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Experienced software engineering leader with 7+ years of technical experience and at least 3 years in people management, with a proven track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience delivering AI-enabled products, including the machine learning lifecycle, model validation, and deployment in production environments.
  • Strong expertise in modern software engineering practices, including cloud and on-prem architectures, CI/CD, automated testing, secure development, and infrastructure as code.
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to define technical strategy, influence cross-functional teams, and operate effectively in regulated environments (e.g., medical devices, healthcare) with a strong focus on patient safety and product quality.
  • Fluent in English is required; Dutch is a plus. The role is based in Best, the Netherlands, with a hybrid working model. Experience with medical imaging, computer vision, or launching new product initiatives is considered a plus.
