We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced data protection expert with strong communicative skills. Can you translate legal requirements into hands-on work guidance for our Business Tribes? Are you able to assess complex GDPR related cases and provide clear answers to our clients and colleagues? Do you want to help ensure that ING NL always processes personal data in accordance with the GDPR? Then join the Safe Data area of ING NL.

Roles & responsibilities

The Data Privacy Team, as part of the Safe Data area, ensures that within ING NL we always handle the personal data of our customers with care and that we fulfil all legal requirements.

The tasks of the Safe Data area consist of identifying and assessing risks and designing effective approaches to mitigate risks. For example by developing and implementing processes or work instructions to ensure compliant processing of all (personal) data. Furthermore, the team provides practical input on new business activities, handles data subjects right requests and assesses and reports data breaches. Your main activities will be:

  • Handling individual rights requests: this includes assessing the request, gathering relevant information and providing a response to our clients.
  • Following relevant developments within and outside ING NL, such as upcoming laws and regulations, and translating these developments into hands-on work instructions to remain compliant and in control.
  • Improving existing processes by assessing how we can work more effective and efficient.
  • Advising on data protection and privacy related topics.
  • Providing GDPR expertise and being the go-to person for our internal stakeholders.
  • Making sure our register of processing activities is kept up to date.
  • Contributing to the ongoing operational tasks of the Data Privacy Office, such as reviewing assessments, data breach notifications and responding to customer inquiries.
  • Making sure internal roles and responsibilities and expectations are clear, and identifying and rolling out training activities if needed.

The team

You become part of a Safe Data Team (formally known as Data Privacy Office) and work closely with the Data Protection Executive (DPE), Data Protection Officer (DPO), the Privacy Spocs within ING NL and all other Data Governance and Protection Experts. You will regularly collaborate with colleagues from the 2nd line Risk departments (Legal, Compliance and Non-financial risk) and colleagues from ING’s Bank.

The Safe Data area is part of Tribe Data Management. Our tribe consists of three product areas, a platform team and the Safe Data area that holds both Data Privacy and CDO experts. We empower ING to get the best value of its data while ensuring that data is safe and well-protected.

How to succeed

  • Proven experience and knowledge of GDPR.
  • A bachelor's/master's degree (preferably in law).
  • Several years (3+) of relevant work experience in the field of data protection, such as handling individual rights requests, drafting and implementing policies and/or process improvement.
  • Practical work experience in the First Line of Defence (1LoD)—such as undertaking operational privacy tasks or working within a dedicated privacy office—is considered a strong advantage.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders across departments and all organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proficient in English and Dutch (verbal and writing).
  • Enthusiastic, true team player and willing to help others to be successful.
  • Focus on making impact and a drive to get things done.
  • Pre: familiar with the ING organization and/or affinity with the financial services sector.

Our offer

  • A salary tailored to your qualities and experience.
  • 24-27 vacation days, depending on contract.
  • Pension scheme.
  • 13 month’s salary.
  • Individual Saving Contribution (BIS), 3.5% of your gross annual salary.
  • 8% holiday payment.
  • Hybrid working to blend home working for focus and office working for collaboration and co-creation.
  • Personal growth and challenging work with many possibilities.
  • An informal working environment with innovative colleagues.
  • A unique opportunity to be closely involved in a broad scope of activities around data protection.
