Are you interested in machine learning, AI and want to work on improving the transparency and reproducibility of research? Then we would love to meet you!

Job description

4TU.ResearchData is looking for an enthusiastic Project Officer to primarily work on a new initiative called Enabling FAIR for AI: Infrastructure for Transparency and Reproducibility of Research Software. In this role, you will shape and contribute to work that enables researchers to reuse and reproduce data and software more effectively, especially in ML/AI, and in alignment with the FAIR principles.

The project aims to do this by further developing and extending the functionality of Djehuty, the open source repository platform used by 4TU.ResearchData and Nikhef. Key project outcomes will include criteria for a graded badge to assess the quality and reproducibility of data, software and models, a software reproducibility service, and improved deposit, curation and reproducibility workflows. The project will align with broader national and international initiatives related to reproducibility and meet emerging regulatory requirements related to ethical and responsible AI. This work is funded by Open Science NL (part of NWO) as part of its programme to strengthen the infrastructure for open science in the Netherlands.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with project partners from several Dutch institutions (Netherlands eScience Center, Nikhef and University of Twente) and work as part of the 4TU.ResearchData team in the TU Delft Library. This role will focus on developing accreditation criteria to assign quantitative value to metadata and documentation of data, software and models. These criteria will be used in a graded badge and help to verify and signal the reproducibility of software and models. This will connect with and build on international initiatives related to research software quality indicators, model certification and reproducibility checks. Apart from working in the FAIR for AI project, you will also work across other projects related to infrastructure and skills/training.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the overall aims of the FAIR for AI project with a focus on accreditation criteria, certification/badging and reproducibility workflows;
  • Identifying, connecting and building on relevant accreditation and reproducibility initiatives (e.g. CODECHECK) to ensure alignment with international developments;
  • Gathering and synthesising requirements for the development and integration of machine learning and AI functionalities into research data infrastructure services;
  • Monitoring progress at the work package level, including timelines, milestones and deliverables;
  • Authoring and contributing to deliverables for FAIR for AI and other projects, including reports and guidelines, in collaboration with project partners;
  • Organising workshops, meetings and engagement activities for multiple projects;
  • Supporting the dissemination and promotion of project opportunities and outcomes through documentation, presentations and outreach;
  • Assisting with project administration and reporting;
  • Contributing to relevant 4TU.ResearchData activities (e.g. community events) and supporting colleagues within the team as required.

About 4TU.ResearchData: 4TU.ResearchData is a research infrastructure, community and training provider whose mission is to enable researchers from science, engineering and design disciplines to make a global impact with research data and software. We provide a trusted digital repository which supports Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data and software by offering curation, sharing, long-term access and preservation. The repository has a broad community of users and supporters who advance FAIR data and software practices. 4TU.ResearchData is governed and led by a consortium of four technical universities in the 4TU.Federation (TU Delft, University of Twente, TU Eindhoven and Wageningen University & Research) and is hosted by TU Delft.

Job requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who have:

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including administration and reporting;
  • Good understanding and experience of working in higher education and research contexts, preferably in roles related to research or research services;
  • Demonstrated understanding and expertise in machine learning, responsible AI or research data infrastructures. You do not need to be a technical expert, but you should be comfortable working with technical teams;
  • Strong organisational skills, including event organisation and coordination;
  • Excellent team-working and collaboration skills, including experience working with multiple project partners, networks and stakeholders;
  • Strong personal communication skills;
  • Affinity with and knowledge of open science and FAIR data/software.

Conditions of employment

  • Duration of contract is 3 years. Temporary.
  • A job of 28-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on Scale 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a salary between €4728 - €6433 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.
  • The possibility to compile an individual employment package every year.
  • Discount with health insurers on supplemental packages.
  • Flexible working week.
  • Every year, 232 leave hours (at 38 hours). You can also sell or buy additional leave hours via the individual choice budget.
  • Plenty of opportunities for education, training and courses.
  • Partially paid parental leave.
  • Attention for working healthy and energetically with the vitality program.
