The machine learning engineering chapter at Allianz Direct is a global team consisting of experienced data scientists / machine learning engineers that have been pioneering new use cases in insurance and building a modern machine learning platform. The team is responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning models in all 5 countries where Allianz Direct is currently active. We are looking for a senior data scientist / ML engineer to grow the team in Rotterdam, to build and deploy machine learning solutions to serve business needs.

You will get to:

  • Work with experienced data scientists / ML engineers and focus on building one or two machine learning solutions at a time. Develop your models end-to-end, from ideation with business stakeholders to deployment and monitoring.
  • Dive into a range of challenging modelling problems around our pricing engine, claim processes, customer contact center and operations. You can expect to tackle problems using classification, regression, anomaly detection, survival modelling, time series and large language models.
  • Utilize our mature next generation data platform hosted on Databricks, containing well organized data across all Allianz Direct countries.
  • Help to extend our machine learning platform used for development and deployment of a range of models, in both batch and API inference modes.
  • Collaborate with dev engineers to embed a deployed model into company processes.
  • Contribute to our continuously evolving way of working and internal packages, as well as benefit from and contribute to our weekly knowledge sharing sessions.
  • Work on a modern tech stack. We use Python, Databricks, AzureML, MLflow and can leverage shared compute for large training jobs.
  • Work together with diverse international colleagues based in Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and France.

Your profile:

  • Academic degree (MSc or PhD), preferably in a relevant technical field such as computer science, data science, physics, econometrics, or engineering.
  • A strong foundation in machine learning theory. You know how to properly apply a wide range of algorithms for classification, regression, and other predictive problems.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar data science or ML engineering role.
  • A love for coding. Programming experience in Python is required and you are familiar with libraries like pandas/scikit-learn, and have experience doing hyper parameter tuning for a diverse set of models including boosting models.
  • Experience with MLOps on Databricks or experience within the insurance business are a strong plus.
  • You are a self-learner. You are eager to keep developing and improving, and stay on top of the latest developments. You enjoy both sharing knowledge and learning from others.
  • Fluent in English. Able to communicate complex topics in a clear and precise manner to audiences with different backgrounds and at different levels.
  • Located in the Netherlands, since this hybrid role requires working with the team at the office location in Rotterdam.

What we offer:

  • An attractive monthly salary based on knowledge and experience, starting at €6,500.00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours).
  • A bonus of 12.5% of your gross annual salary and 8% holiday allowance.
  • An NS business card which you can also use privately, or a travel allowance (€0.23/km).
  • Flexible working: 60/40 home/office, for which you will receive a home working allowance of up to €40.00 per month.
  • Vacation days: 25 for full-time employment. You can get up to 38 vacation days per year for 40 hours per week.
  • A pension plan with a small personal contribution of only 3.5%.
  • An annual contract with the intention of a permanent contract.
  • A prime office location in the heart of Rotterdam, close to shops and restaurants.
  • Festive moments are celebrated: an extensive end-of-year drinks party and a fun summer party.
  • Discount on Allianz Direct insurance products.

We invest in your personal and professional growth so that you can be successful in your work and beyond.
