Graduation assignment: Improve sustainability within DAF Trucks

Improve the Environmental, Social and Governance program and sustainability report for DAF

Both CSRD, CSDDD and many more (upcoming) legislations require us to have more information about the social and environmental risks in our total value chain. In your assignment you will map the risks of DAFs supply chain based on the materials used in our trucks, and geographical locations of our suppliers.

This includes:

• Study and keep us updated on supply chain due diligence requirements
• Study to OECD due diligence framework and apply this to the DAF supply chain
• Describe risks (both environmental and social) related to top10 materials used in trucks with diesel engine, and in battery electric vehicles
• Describe risks (both environmental and social) related to the top10 countries where DAF tier1 suppliers are located.
• Map the further supply chain based on literature research and also describe risks for suppliers further than tier 1
• Make a heat map for DAF supply chain; what are the main environmental and social risks related to the DAF supply chain
• Suggest mitigation actions for the most material risks, also include in this advice what is legally required and what is not.

Jouw profiel

We are looking for an enthusiastic Bachelor or Master student who is studying in the direction of, for example, Industrial Engineering, Sustainability, Economics, Supply Chain Management or similar. You are available from September 2026 until Februari 2027.

A more detailed description of the research question or internship content will be created in the coming months, preferably together with the student.

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in industrial engineering, Sustainability, Finance, or similar
• Knowledge of Sustainability, continuous improvement and (upcoming) sustainability legislation
• Language skills: Good communication skills (writing and speaking) in English and Dutch are required
• Competencies: ability to connect to people, analytical view, and suggest process improvements.

Afdeling

The sustainability department at DAF is responsible for improving sustainability within DAF and its value chain, making this measurable and reportable. In our opinion, this can only be done by integrating sustainability in all business processes and create sustainability goals for every department.

Sustainability reports into the Finance and Control organization of DAF Trucks and is based in Eindhoven. In 2028 DAF will disclose significantly more non-financial information in its annual report than it has ever done before, and this information has to be assured (limited assurance by an external accountant). Therefor we have to make sure data is reliable, complete and accurate and controls are in place. But more importantly we have to implement sustainability in every aspect of our business.
