The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for supervising the manufacturing engineering department MR: controlling manufacturing and production processes, escalation management, costs control, developing mid-term manufacturing strategy, supporting decision-making processes, co-leading sourcing plans, advising on financial-technical matters, initiating continuous improvement, and ensuring adherence to established business processes.

Function description

Manager of a dedicated engineering department for equipment and process establishment & validation production preparation, maintenance and quality control.

  • Creates a working environment that continuously improves the Health and Safety of workers.
  • Drives & manages activities related to manufacturing engineering, escalation management, improving process yield, product & process design changes, cycle time improvement, costs and safety.
  • Manages and deploys the processes and standards with embedded quality into the way of working including adherence to compliance with safety, regulatory- and environmental requirements as well as local laws, Philips General Business principles and other policies.
  • Leads an engineering department, and oversees activities including achieving results, controlling costs such as CAPEX, staffing, performance management, compensation, career development, and directing operational processes.
  • Develops midterm manufacturing engineering strategy, reviews employee resource and training plans, and verifies analyses for optimal capability allocation to projects.
  • Drives team efficiency, analyses the progress and outcomes of projects and department activities to identify areas for improvement, implements strategies for enhanced performance, and ensures alignment with objectives to achieve desired results.
  • Supports decision-making processes regarding whether to manufacture internally, procure externally or outsource certain aspects of production, weighing factors such as cost, quality, capacity, and strategic alignment to optimize operational efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Co-leads the development and implementation of sourcing plans aimed at acquiring necessary tools, equipment, and manufacturing processes to support operational efficiency and meet production demands.
  • Implements statistical process control (SPC) techniques and Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, reducing variation, enhancing product quality and fostering innovation across various aspects of the organization.
  • Advises on complex processes and challenging organizational challenges from a financial-technical perspective and collaborates with the Finance & Accounting department to address financial-related topics such as cost prices, cost savings, capex, capital planning, and operational result analysis.
  • Ideates continuous improvement, enhances product manufacturability, applies lean manufacturing principles, leads streamlining of capital expenditures for recurring investments, and ensures optimized operations and cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyzes ongoing project status and outcomes through technical reports and recommendations, establishes and ensures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements to maintain operational efficiency and effectively communicates progress and results to higher management for informed decision-making.
  • Ensures strict adherence to established business processes, maintains consistency, efficiency, and compliance across all operational activities, and oversees resources, planning, quality, and cost (including Capex) for projects.

Minimum required Education:

Bachelor's Degree/ Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Sciences, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or equivalent.

Minimum required Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience with Bachelor's OR Minimum 3 years of experience with Master's in areas such as Manufacturing/Operations, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Production Engineering, or Cost Engineering or equivalent.
