A good work-life balance, what even is that? Everyone desires a different work-life balance. Some people live to work and others work to live. If you belong to the first group you probably like your work so much that it can consume your whole entire life. A social life and chilling will have to take a backseat.

Why is it so important to have a good work-life balance?
Reason 1: It raises your own productivity
You might not believe us, but working less can drastically improve your productivity. Do you feel like you’re just staring at your screen aimlessly? The best thing you can do is just to go grab a drink with your friends, gain some new ideas, refresh your creativity and come back to it the next day. After too much work, you get in a slump and you are not able to think clearly anymore.
That’s why having a good work-life balance is so important. Having time to spend with friends, family, or to Netflix just by yourself, do not only give you energy, but it also brings new ideas.
Reason 2: It is necessary to sustain relationships
Remember when the Spice Girls said “If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends”, the same goes for your work. Friends are going to be there for life, a job you might have for a few years.
Some people might not mind having only their work, and never getting to see their friends, but in the long term this will not make you happy. Your family, friends, and lover, will only put up with your crazy work schedule for so long, and it will not be long until they stop inviting you to their meet-ups entirely.
Reason 3: You are more than just your job
Focusing on one thing entirely is never healthy. It wasn’t when you were obsessing over that boy/girl that didn’t text you back, it wasn’t when you were only eating McDonald’s for a week, and it isn’t now either.
To become a desired, well-rounded, confident person it is important to have more aspects to yourself than just a hard-working hairdresser, marketer, or stockbroker, to name a few examples. Taking a course for photography, being a socialite, or becoming a crazy cat lady/men, are all things that will give your personality more dimension, and will give you something to talk about at work.
Reason 4: To protect yourself
Everyone knows that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what about your mental health? With the increase of burn-outs in the last couple of years, it has become more and more important to take time away from work to protect your mental health.
Even if you have the best job in the world (sometimes even more), there’s always the danger of becoming overworked. To prevent this it is important to take a vacation every once in a while, take a day off, and not deprive yourself of enough rest.
Reason 5: #YOLO
Do we even say that anymore? Doesn’t matter. There is so much more to see, do and feel, than just your office. Have you always wanted to see the Colosseum? Go! Wanted to rent a house on the Bahama’s? Go for it! And you want to see your favourite show every week? Of course!
Doing whatever makes you happy is so important, because you only have one life to live, so you better make it the best damn life there is.
