Internship opportunity: Chemistry, Catalysis or Process Engineering (MSc) — Develop a new process to make Conductive Metal Patterns using Water Based inks

Are you a MSc. student which is looking for a multidisciplinary graduation assignment? Are you ready for the challenge to find and implement novel and more sustainable ways to make metallized prints? We are looking for you!

Your assignment

If you see shiny metal on a printed piece of paper or packaging material it means they probably got there using a rather non-sustainable, environmentally unfriendly process. We want to develop a future-proof alternative method where we will use only water based inks/processing liquids that will be compatible with conventional inkjet processes.

For this assignment you will need to study the literature on electroless deposition processes and make the translation to the inkjet field. You will be in the lab to synthesize and characterize catalytically active nano-particles and to test and compare different metallization strategies. The most successful processes will be tested on a real printer.

You will be working with state of the art equipment in a well-equipped wet chemical lab. In view of the multidisciplinary character of the assignment, you will be collaborating with other chemist, other interns, physicists and engineers. Your results and final advice need to be put together in well structured presentation/report for the other colleagues.

Your profile

For this assignment we need an intern that:

  • Is creative
  • Likes to work in the lab
  • Takes initiative
  • Communicates well
  • Is available for at least 5 months

What’s in it for you?

  • A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
  • Internship/ Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
  • Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
  • The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
