Enable the engineers who enable bol

By ensuring bol’s engineers have the infrastructure and tooling they need to build what truly matters to 13.7 million customers, 47,000 partners, and over 2,500 colleagues. As the Senior Product Manager of the Technical Platform, you conceptualize and shape the foundation that drives our advanced engineering organization. You contribute to a compelling product vision, set clear priorities, and make data-driven decisions that help engineering teams deliver compliant, reliable solutions. Your work may be largely invisible to end customers, but nothing would run without it.

The biggest challenge

In e-commerce, technology and innovation are key ingredients for success. Our Technical Platform provides engineers with programming frameworks, a developer portal, monitoring and observability tools, cloud provisioning, and data infrastructure. The challenge: understanding how engineers want to work, what they need to succeed, and how to prioritize across a broad capability landscape. To shine in this role, you’ll need to combine technical depth with regulatory awareness (privacy, compliance) and a keen sense of cost efficiency. And you’ll need to get people on board with your vision, articulating complex trade-offs to stakeholders who are often less immersed in tech.

What you'll do as the Senior Product Manager of the Technical Platform

You’ll join the Technical Platform Product team, which guides our engineering teams through product discovery, prioritization, and strategic steering. Your focus will be on advancing our data-related capabilities – the tooling and infrastructure that ensures engineers can work with data effectively, compliantly, and with noticeable job satisfaction.

You’ll work closely with engineers, engineering managers, and tech leads, identifying what the organization needs, spotting opportunities, and following through on them. You’ll perform data analysis to support decisions, manage the product backlog, and determine priorities. You’ll develop and communicate a persuasive vision and long-term strategy for your product area. Continuous interaction with stakeholders and users is a given, as you monitor progress closely, adapt plans to feedback, and act as an ardent ambassador for your product. You inspire, challenge, and empower your team to work towards shared goals. In summing up, you’ll:

  • Contribute to a compelling vision for Technical Platform products
  • Set clear priorities that provide engineering teams with stimulating challenges
  • Discover and follow through on opportunities through data analysis and user research
  • Manage the product backlog and drive prioritization decisions
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, engineering managers, and tech leads
  • Communicate complex trade-offs clearly to diverse stakeholders
  • Inspire and empower teams to get behind and deliver on shared goals

Why you can make a difference

You combine a minimum of 5 years of Product Management experience in a product-led organization with a genuine affinity for engineering. You have a technical background – or the curiosity and drive to build one. You understand that platforms are about enabling and amplifying the impact of others and find that rewarding. Your communication skills set you apart: you articulate complex issues clearly, manage resistance gracefully and thoughtfully, and bring people together. You’re analytical and data-driven and at the same time you know when to trust your intuition. Experience in leading diverse teams is a definite plus.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

- Direction-dependent You invariably prefer clear instructions and well-defined tasks to ambiguity and autonomous decision-making

- Business-agnostic You never been convinced of the business-critical nature of infrastructure, and doubt that a platform can be a competitive advantage

- Tranquility-seeker You avoid problems not because you can’t overcome them, but because autopilot is good enough

+ Platform enabler You understand that great platforms boost capabilities, and that motivates you more than shipping fancy user-facing features

+ Complexity navigator You enjoy untangling complex technical material and explaining it lucidly to colleagues with different backgrounds

+ Self-directed driver You naturally take ownership, make things happen, and don't wait for your manager to spell everything out

Here's where you'll work

You’ll join the Technical Platform team at bol, the leading retail tech platform in the Netherlands and Belgium. With 13.7 million customers, 47,000 partners, and 48 million articles on 24/7 display, our engineering foundation needs to be rock solid. The setting? Collaborative and technically ambitious, because our infrastructure needs to make everything else possible. If you want to enable engineers at scale and shape the future of a large e-commerce player, this is your platform.
