About the Role
We are seeking a professional, passionate and pragmatic HSE Manager to support our activities in the EMEA region. You will be responsible for communicating requirements, raising standards, and improving HSE performance for our project and service delivery activities across the region in conjunction with the Regional QHSE Manager and delivery teams.
You will work closely with departmental, team, and project/site managers in planning for site activities, with a specific focus on compliance with requirements and ensuring high-risk activities are effectively controlled to minimise the risk of accidents and incidents.
You must be a good communicator, proactive and adaptable, and able to use your initiative and influencing skills to drive forward high standards. You must be organised and able to investigate, analyse, and report on complex incidents including root causes. You will be skilled at developing and implementing both corrective and preventive action programs that can be effectively implemented across the business. Working well under pressure is expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a proactive QHSE culture and actively engage with teams to maintain high standards and improve QHSE performance.
- Provide direction and support to regional teams, project managers, and service managers in planning and execution of site activities in line with company standards and processes, legislation, client requirements, and good practice.
- Support procurement teams in undertaking due diligence and ensuring contractors and suppliers are able to demonstrate their HSE credentials. Audit contractors.
- Raise awareness of Corporate and Domain HSE standards, HSE processes, HSE legislation, and compliance requirements through training, effective communication, and active engagement.
- Ensure effective use of company reporting tools including investigation and root cause analysis of significant incidents and driving corrective and preventive actions to completion in a timely manner.
- Visit operational sites and projects to engage with managers and teams (including Vanderlande contractors), check progress, undertake audits and inspections, continual improvement activities, and QHSE initiatives.
- Check competences and training of teams and actively promote Vanderlande QHSE training programs. Identify gaps in training and support provision, development, and delivery of appropriate materials and courses.
- Collate QHSE data for reporting for sites, country, region, and domain as required. Liaise with statutory directors to ensure local statutory reporting is in line with requirements.
- Meet objectives and targets for continuous improvements in collaboration with corporate, domain, and regional teams.
- Fulfil the role of HSE Officer where required to support delivery of projects and service activities, including site-based support.
- Provide HSE support to the regional QHSE Manager as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5 years progressive QHSE experience, preferably in an engineering, construction, or infrastructure environment ideally within the EMEA region. Previous experience with automated material handling systems is preferred.
- Degree or professional equivalent qualification in occupational safety and health.
- Environmental management and quality management experience, training, or qualifications are beneficial.
- Strong understanding of regional legal frameworks and requirements, and experience with implementation and management of international QHSE management system standards.
- High level of personal initiative, problem-solving ability, and passion for driving high standards of QHSE performance.
- Demonstrated experience of working in a fast-paced organisation in a multi-site role.
- Fluent in spoken and written English with excellent communication, training, and stakeholder influencing skills. Other languages are a benefit in line with regional needs.
- Must hold a driver’s licence and be able and prepared to travel regularly to locations within the region and to Vanderlande office locations (including air travel).
