Data Engineering & Platforms Lead

The Data Engineering & Platform Lead is responsible for leading the Data Engineering & Platform chapter within the Data & AI function and owns the architecture, engineering standards, reliability, security, and cost efficiency of the Data & AI platform. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, this role enables the successful delivery of Data & AI products by providing the technology foundations, data pipelines, platform services, and architecture guidance required across the organization. The role acts as the senior technology counterpart to IT teams, enterprise architecture, security, and external technology partners, ensuring scalable and compliant solutions are delivered. Working closely with Product Managers and engineering teams, the Data Engineering & Platform Lead drives platform innovation, operational excellence, and modern engineering practices. Success is measured through platform reliability, engineering quality, delivery enablement, cost optimization, and the development of a high-performing engineering organization.

Job Description

• Lead, develop and grow the Data Engineering & Platform chapter, including engineers, architects and platform specialists, while building a high-performing team culture.
• Define and maintain engineering, architecture and platform standards across the Data & AI function, ensuring consistent adoption of DataOps, MLOps, Infrastructure as Code and security best practices.
• Own end-to-end solution architecture across the Data & AI technology stack, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, performant and aligned with enterprise standards.
• Lead the development and operation of data pipelines, platform capabilities and SAP integrations that enable trusted, high-quality data products and AI solutions.
• Drive platform reliability, security, DevOps and MLOps capabilities, including CI/CD, automation, monitoring, governance and operational support.
• Manage platform costs, vendor relationships and technology roadmaps while continuously identifying opportunities for platform optimization and innovation.

For this role as a Data Engineering & Platform Lead, we're looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree and extensive experience in data engineering, platform engineering and/or solution architecture, including leadership of engineering teams.
• Deep expertise across modern Data & AI platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Databricks, SAP integration technologies and cloud-native data architectures.
• Strong experience with data engineering practices, SQL, Python, Spark, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps and platform automation.
• Proven experience defining architecture standards and translating complex technical decisions into business value for senior stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of MLOps, AI platform operations, cloud security, governance, cost management and compliance requirements.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to drive innovation while balancing architectural integrity and delivery speed.
