Internship Offshore Wind Wake Benchmarking: Help improve how the offshore wind sector predicts wind farm wake effects. You will contribute to EuroWindWakes, a European research project that compares advanced models with independent measurements and tests future North Sea wind farm scenarios. The preferred start date is as soon as possible, and the internship lasts at least four months.
- Arnhem
- 600 - 750
- As our new intern, you will join Haskoning’s wind energy team in the Netherlands.
What you will do as an intern
You will join a team working at the interface of offshore measurements, atmospheric modelling and engineering wake models. Your work will support a measurement based validation benchmark and, depending on project priorities, a Round Robin test for future North Sea wind farm scenarios.
You will work with wind farm layouts, LiDAR and buoy measurements, model input data and simulation results. Together with Haskoning colleagues and European project partners, you will help create a transparent and reproducible comparison of different modelling approaches.
- Prepare and quality check benchmark input data, including wind farm layouts, wind turbine information, measurement metadata and operating history.
- Support the processing and analysis of LiDAR and buoy measurements with documented and reproducible Python workflows.
- Develop and test central validation scripts that compare submitted model time series with withheld measurement data.
- Help define benchmark scenarios, data formats, performance metrics and uncertainty documentation for wake model validation.
- Contribute to future North Sea Round Robin scenarios and communicate technical findings in concise figures, notes and presentations.
Where you will work
At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.
As our new intern, you will join Haskoning’s wind energy team in the Netherlands. You will work with wind resource specialists, data analysts and European research partners on practical questions that support the responsible development of offshore wind energy.
What you bring
You are curious about renewable energy and enjoy working carefully with data. You can structure an analysis, document your choices and communicate clearly with colleagues from different technical backgrounds. Previous experience with wake models is useful but not required.
- You are enrolled in a Master’s programme in wind energy, atmospheric science, physics, engineering, data science or a related field.
- You have experience with Python.
- You have an interest in offshore wind energy, atmospheric flow or numerical modelling.
- You communicate confidently in English and are available to start as soon as possible for a minimum duration of 4 months. The duration and weekly hours will be agreed together.
