What if you could use your software engineering skills to make the products that dairy farmers rely on every day more secure? As a Security Engineer at Lely, you do more than investigate vulnerabilities or perform security tests. You work closely with engineers to understand how our products work, identify potential weaknesses and turn your findings into practical improvements. Your work directly contributes to the quality, reliability and value of our products, helping dairy farmers rely on the technology that supports their daily operations.
You will join a mature team of security experts within our Product Security Team. Together, you work across a broad and varied technology landscape, from software embedded in our robots and systems on the farm to cloud platforms and mobile applications. This gives you the opportunity to explore different areas of security, develop your expertise and learn from experienced colleagues. Whether you already have a background in security or are looking to transition from software engineering, you will have room to grow while making a tangible impact.
- Junior Security Engineer
- HBO/WO
- Maassluis
- Fulltime or Parttime
What is your role?
Your main responsibilities include:
- Working closely with software and product engineers to identify security risks and translate your findings into practical improvements to Lely products.
- Investigating technical security questions in depth, researching potential vulnerabilities and analysing how systems behave in real-world environments.
- Assessing the security of our products across embedded systems, farm-edge technology, cloud platforms and mobile applications, while developing a broad understanding of how these components interact.
- Supporting engineers in making informed security decisions and integrating security considerations into product development and improvement.
- Sharing your findings, ideas and recommendations clearly with colleagues, documenting your work and contributing to the team's knowledge and continuous learning.
- Keeping up with new security developments, challenging yourself technically and taking ownership of your learning and professional development.
What is your experience?
You are curious, self-driven and motivated to understand how technology works beneath the surface. You enjoy investigating complex questions, exploring different technical areas and turning what you learn into actionable solutions. You do not need to know everything already, but you do need the willingness to learn, take responsibility and put in the effort to develop your skills.
In addition, you bring:
- Experience in software development, with a solid understanding of how software is designed, built and maintained. We value genuine engineering knowledge and the ability to explain and assess the code you work with, including code developed with the support of AI tools.
- An interest in cybersecurity and a drive to explore how systems can be made more secure. This may come from professional experience, personal projects, Capture the Flag (CTF) challenges, Hack The Box or other hands-on learning activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the persistence to investigate a question in depth rather than stopping at the first answer.
- The ability to communicate your ideas, findings, motivation and limitations clearly, including what you know and where you still need to learn.
- A proactive mindset and a sense of ownership, combined with the curiosity to explore a broad range of technologies and develop deeper expertise in selected areas.
- A good command of English, both written and spoken.
- A willingness to work at our campus in Maassluis at least three days per week.
Experience with embedded products, industrial automation or robotics is an advantage. Previous professional experience in cybersecurity is valuable, but we are also interested in software engineers who are motivated to develop their careers in security.
